WWE SummerSlam Review – August 5, 2023

Ricochet vs. Logan Paul

Ricochet ducks a punch to start the match and levels Logan Paul with a dropkick. Paul rolls to the outside so Ricochet fakes a dive to get into Paul’s head. Paul heads back into the ring and connects with a back elbow shot to the chin. Ricochet goes for the leg but Paul slides out of the way. Paul catches Ricochet with a hip toss and locks in a rear chin lock.

Ricochet fights back to his feet and charges at Paul but Paul back body drops him to the apron. Paul chokes Ricochet across the top rope and hits a neckbreaker on the apron. Paul rolls Ricochet back into the ring and goes to work with body shots in the corner. Paul delivers a powerslam and gets a two count.

Paul levels Ricochet with a big boot and follows up with the Hogan Paul leg drop. Ricochet fights back and connects with the People’s Standing Moonsault. Paul regains control with a back body drop and a springboard clothesline on the apron then Paul goes for a Spanish Fly off the apron but both men land on their feet.

Paul heads back into the ring and flips back to the outside to connect with a clothesline then Paul rolls Ricochet back into the ring and hits a crossbody/moonsault combination for another two count. Ricochet posts Paul in the corner and takes Paul up top.

Ricochet hits Paul with a neckbreaker from the top rope then Ricochet follows up with a springboard clothesline and a standing moonsault for a two count of his own. Ricochet goes to work with kicks to the arms and body.

Paul heads up top and goes for a moonsault, but Ricochet catches him, so Paul counters into a tornado DDT. Ricochet fights back with the Recoil and heads up top. Ricochet goes for a shooting star press, but Paul gets his knees up and rolls up Ricochet for a two count.

Paul drops Ricochet face first on the mat and follows up with a springboard frog splash for yet another two count. Paul goes for a clothesline but Ricochet counters with a superkick. Ricochet hits the Detonation Kick followed by a springboard moonsault for a two count.

Ricochet drags Paul to the corner and heads up top. Ricochet goes for the 450 Splash but Paul rolls out of the way then someone at ringside hands Paul a set of brass knuckles while the referee is checking on Ricochet. Paul punches Ricochet with the brass knuckles to get the win.

Winner: Logan Paul (18:00)

Cody Rhodes vs. Brock Lensar

Cody Rhodes goes right at Brock Lesnar as soon as the bell rings but Lesnar answers with a belly 2 belly suplex. Rhodes hits 2 Disaster Kicks but Lesnar counters the 3rd Disaster Kick with a midair spear.

Lesnar drives hits shoulder into Rhodes ribs in the corner but Rhodes dumps Lesnar to the outside and connects with a dive. Lesnar man handles Rhodes on the outside and rolls him back into the ring.

Rhodes goes for the legs but Lesnar stuffs him and counters into a gutwrench German suplex. Lesnar follows up with a belly 2 belly suplex and a snap suplex. Lesnar hits 3 more German suplexes and tosses Rhodes to the outside. Rhodes slowly climbs up onto the apron but Lesnar immediately knocks him back down to the floor.

Rhodes rolls back into the ring while clutching at his injured ribs & Lesnar hits a snap suplex and once again tosses Rhodes to the outside. Rhodes beats the referee’s count back into the ring but Lesnar immediately clotheslines him back to the outside.

Rhodes breaks the count but Lesnar drags Rhodes off the apron and hits an F5 on the floor. Rhodes once again miraculously beats the referee’s count back into the ring and takes the fight to Lesnar.

Lesnar once again dumps Rhodes to the outside and this time he hits an F5 through the announce table. Rhodes dives back into the ring at the count of 9 and simply refuses to quit. Lesnar hits a belly 2 belly suplex followed by a German suplex but Rhodes rips off the top turnbuckle in the process.

The action spills back to the outside and Rhodes slams Lesnar shoulder first into the ring post then Rhodes slams the ring steps into Lesnar’s face and rolls Lesnar back into the ring. Rhodes hits a Disaster Kick and 2 Cody Cutter’s for a two count.

Lesnar catches Rhodes in the Kimura but Rhodes miraculously manages to make it to the ropes to break the hold. Lesnar goes for the F5 but Rhodes floats over and shoves Lesnar to the exposed turnbuckle.

Rhodes locks in the Kimura but Lesnar gets his legs under him and slams Rhodes to break the hold. Rhodes again goes for the F5 but Rhodes counters into 3 consecutive Cross Rhodes for the win.

Winner: Cody Rhodes (17:35)

United States Champion Austin Theory vs. Ivar vs. Erik vs. JD McDonagh vs. Rick Boogs vs. Otis vs. Chad Gable vs. Ludwig Kaiser vs. Giovanni Vinci vs. Ridge Holland vs. Butch vs. Sheamus vs. Matt Riddle vs. Grayson Waller vs. Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Bronson Reed vs. Tommaso Ciampa vs. Apollo Crews vs. LA Knight vs. Santos Escobar vs. AJ Styles vs. The Miz vs. Karrion Kross vs. Cameron Grimes vs. Omos

Chaos erupts in the ring as Omos easily eliminates Apollo Crews & JD McDonagh then 5 competitors team up on Omos but they still can’t eliminate him. Otis gets eliminated as Chad Gable eliminates Giovanni Vinci. Austin Theory eliminates Ridge Holland and then quickly does the same to Cameron Grimes.

Theory turns to celebrate his success but Santos Escobar clotheslines Theory over the top rope for the elimination. Karrion Kross eliminates Escobar as Omos simultaneous eliminates Matt Riddle & Butch. LA Knight goes after Omos but eats a knee to the jaw then the rest of the remaining competitors team up against Omos and manages to eliminate him.

LA Knight eliminates The Miz & Sheamus does the same to Grayson Waller. AJ Styles connects with a Pelé Kick to eliminate Kross from the apron as Bronson Reed launches Gable for the elimination. The final 4 are LA Knight, AJ Styles, Sheamus & Bronson Reed. Knight eliminates Reed & Sheamus Brogue Kicks Styles off the apron for the elimination.

The final 2 are LA Knight & Sheamus. Knight looks for Blunt Force Trauma but Sheamus counters with a knee to the jaw. Knight dumps Sheamus to the apron so Sheamus heads up top. Knight leaps all the way up top and delivers a belly 2 belly superplex then Knight clothesline Sheamus to the outside for the win.

Winner: LA Knight (11:55)

MMA Rules Match
Shayna Baszler vs. Ronda Rousey

Ronda Rousey muscles Shayna Baszler to the ropes and takes her down but Baszler gets back to her feet. Baszler takes down Rousey and goes for back control but Rousey counters into an attempted armbar. Baszler gets back to her feet and levels Rousey with a roundhouse kick to the side of the head.

Baszler goes for a knee bar but Rousey gets back to her knee and levels Baszler with a knee shot to the face. Rousey takes down Baszler and locks in a head triangle. Rousey goes for an armbar but Baszler gets her legs under her and dumps herself and Rousey to the outside.

Rousey & Baszler head back into the ring and 2 medical officials check on Baszler’s injured arm. Baszler gets back to her feet and throws her mouth guard right at Rousey.

Baszler catches Rousey in the Kirifuda Clutch but Rousey counters into an armbar but Baszler counters into an ankle lock. Rousey goes for a sleeper but Baszler goes back to the Kirifuda Clutch & Rousey passes out so the ref calls for the bell.

Winner By TKO: Shayna Baszler (7:30)

Gunther (c) vs. Drew McIntyre

Drew McIntyre takes the fight to Gunther and drops him with a shoulder tackle. Gunther takes down McIntyre and locks in a side head lock before the action spills to the outside. Gunther drops McIntyre back first onto the ring steps and heads back into the ring then McIntyre heads back into the ring and slugs it out with Gunther in the middle of the ring.

Gunther drops McIntyre with a chop and follows up with a butterfly suplex before Gunther & McIntyre trade short clotheslines in the middle of the ring but Gunther gets the best of it and follows up with a German suplex. McIntyre lights up Gunther with a volley of chops and a belly 2 belly suplex. McIntyre hits another belly 2 belly suplex and follows up with a neckbreaker. McIntyre sets up for the Claymore but Gunther ducks and dropkicks McIntyre to the corner.

Gunther goes for a powerbomb but McIntyre counters into a powerbomb of his own. McIntyre hits Future Shock DDT and gets a two count. McIntyre again sets up for the Claymore but Gunther rolls to the outside. McIntyre connects with a dive to the outside and rolls Gunther back into the ring. McIntyre goes for the Claymore but Gunther counts with a dropkick. Gunther hits a powerbomb but only gets a two count.

Gunther heads up top and connects with a diving splash for another two count then Gunther & McIntyre once again trade chops in the middle of the ring but McIntyre catches Gunther with a Claymore for a two count. McIntyre takes Gunther up top but Gunther shoves McIntyre and crotches him on the top rope.

Gunther waits for McIntyre to hit the mat and connects with a diving splash then Gunther follows up with a clothesline and hits a powerbomb to put McIntyre away.

World Heavyweight Title Match
Seth Rollins (c) vs. Finn Balor

Seth Rollins & Finn Balor brawl as soon as the bell rings as they slug it out in the middle of the ring and Rollins charges at Balor but Balor gets his boots up in Rollins’ face. Balor wrenches Rollins’ arm around the top rope and then takes him down to the mat with an armbar. Balor transitions into a hammer lock but Rollins fights back to his feet.

Balor goes back to the armbar and then slams Rollins shoulder first into the top turnbuckle then Balor again goes back to the armbar but Rollins breaks free and trades chops with Balor in the middle of the ring. Balor catches Rollins with a side Russian leg sweep and goes right back to the armbar.

Balor whips Rollins to the corner but Rollins rebounds out of the corner and levels Balor with a clothesline. Rollins goes to work with Kawada Kicks and gets a two count. Rollins hits the Falcon Arrow and then connects with a suicide dive on the outside. Balor rolls back into the ring as Rollins heads up top.

Balor drops Rollins neck first onto the top rope and then slams Rollins shoulder first into the ring post. Balor heads to the outside and sets up Rollins for a buckle bomb into the barricade but Rollins blocks. Balor regroup and successfully buckle bombs Rollins into the barricade.

The action returns to the ring, and Rollins counters an short arm scissors into a buckle bomb. Rollins heads up top and hits a frog splash for a two count. Rollins connects with a forearm shot to the back of the neck but Balor fights back with a double stomp to the chest. Balor heads up top but Rollins leads up top and hits a superplex.

Rollins tries to roll into the Falcon Arrow but Balor counters into a rollup for a two count then Rollins & Balor slug it out in the middle of the ring but Balor dropkicks Rollins to the corner. Balor heads up top and goes for the Coup De Grâce but Rollins rolls out of the way. Rollins hits the Pedigree but Balor just manages to kick out at two.

Mr Money In The Bank Damian Priest heads down to ringside with the Money In The Bank briefcase in hand. Priest cheap shots Rollins & Balor follows up with a Pedigree for a two count. Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley & NXT North American Champion Dominik Mysterio emerge from the crowd as Priest offers the MITB briefcase to Balor to use as a weapon.

Balor refuses to use the briefcase and Rollins catches Balor with a Stomp for a two count before Rollins takes out Priest & Mysterio but Balor catches Rollins with a Sling Blade and a Coup De Grâce for a two count.

Priest slides the briefcase into the ring and distracts the referee. Balor tries to grab the briefcase but Rollins hits Curb Stomp on the briefcase to get the win.

Winner & Still World Heavyweight Champion: Seth Rollins (18:30) (STILL CHAMPION!!!!)

Women’s Title Triple Threat Match
Asuka (c) vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Bianca BelAir

Asuka gets dumps to the outside early as Bianca BelAir & Charlotte Flair face off in the ring. Asuka pulls Flair out of the ring but BelAir dives onto both of them. BelAir rolls Asuka back into the ring but Asuka grabs a wrist and grinds her boot into BelAir’s head. BelAir fights back and goes for a Glam Slam but Flair dives off the top and takes out both BelAir & Asuka with a crossbody.

Flair positions Asuka & BelAir in the corner and delivers a handspring forearm shot to BelAir. Flair takes down Asuka and hits a double Natural Selection to both BelAir & Asuka. Flair levels BelAir with a big boot but Asuka catches Flair with a Codebreaker then all 3 slug it out in the middle of the ring but BelAir gets dumped to the outside.

BelAir heads back into the ring and hits a neckbreaker/DDT combination on Flair & Asuka. BelAir goes to work with mounted punches to Flair in the corner and follows up with a spine buster. Belair goes for a handspring moonsault to both Flair & Asuka but Flair & Asuka both get their knees up. Asuka locks in the Asuka Lock on Flair but BelAir connects with a handspring moonsault to both Flair & Asuka to break the Asuka Lock.

BelAir heads up top but Asuka knocks her down to the floor. Flair dumps Asuka to the outside and heads up top. Flair connects with a moonsault to BelAir on the outside but Asuka rolls Flair back into the ring. BelAir heads back into the ring and goes for the KOD on Asuka but Asuka grabs the top rope to block.

Flair big boots Asuka off the apron but BelAir hits Flair with the KOD. Asuka locks in the armbar on Flair but Flair gets her legs under her. BelAir hits Flair with a sit out powerbomb for a two count.

Flair levels Asuka with a Big Boot and heads up top. Flair connects with a moonsault to both Belair and Asuka, but Belair and Asuka both kick out at two. Flair dumps BelAir to the outside, and it looks like Belair injured her leg on the fall then back in the ring, Asuka takes Flair up top and hits a superplex. BelAir is being helped to the back. Flair locks in the Figure 8 on Asuka

BelAir valiantly hobbles back to the ring. BelAir heads up top and hits a 450 splash onto Flair for a two count. BelAir & Flair trade shots in the middle of the ring and BelAir goes for KOD but Flair counters into a armdrag.

Flair locks in the Figure 8 on BelAir but Asuka mists Flair. Asuka goes for a low kick to BelAir but Belair ducks the kick and rolls up Asuka for the win.

Roman Reigns (c) vs. Jey Uso

Roman Reigns muscles Jey Uso to the corner. Uso shoves Reigns to create distance before locking up with Reigns again. Reigns drops Uso with a shoulder block but Uso gets back to his feet and catches Reigns in a standing side head lock. Reigns breaks the hold and levels Uso with a back elbow shot to the jaw.

Reigns goes for a back drop but Uso floats over and connects with a volley of punches to the jaw. Uso clotheslines Reigns to the outside and hits a suicide dive. Uso whips Reigns shoulder first into the ring steps and pulls a table out from under the ring. Uso sets up the table at ringside but Reigns gets back to his feet and slams Uso’s face into the ring steps.

Reigns rolls Uso back into the ring and charges at him in the corner, but Uso gets his boots up in Reigns’ face. Reigns regains control with a Drive By but Uso fights back with a pair of uppercuts and an enzuigiri.

Reigns rolls to the outside and Uso goes for a suicide dive but Reigns counters with a kendo stick shot to the face. Reigns rolls back into the ring and lands of volley of kendo stick shots to Uso. Reigns sets up for the spear but Uso grabs a kendo stick and counters the spear. Uso goes to work with a volley of kendo stick shots that send Reigns to the outside.

Uso hits a suicide dive and rolls Reigns back into the ring but Reigns regains control and goes for a spear. Reigns counters the spear with a roll up and follows up with a superkick. Uso heads up top and hits the Uso Splash for a two count. Uso grabs a chair from under the ring and delivers alot of chair shots to Reigns’ back.

Uso grabs a whole pile of chairs from under the ring and tosses them into a pile in the middle of the ring. Uso takes Reigns up top and sets up for a superplex onto the pile of chairs but Reigns headbutts Uso back down to the mat.

Uso heads back up top with Reigns but Reigns slides under and counters into a powerbomb on the pile of chairs. Reigns makes the cover but only gets a two count. Reigns pulls a 2nd table out from under the ring and slides it into the ring.

Reigns sets up the table in the corner but Uso snaps Reigns’ neck over the top rope. Uso rolls to the apron and hits Reigns with a Samoan Drop off the apron and through the table at ringside.

Uso grabs a leather strap from under the ring and whips Reigns’ back. Reigns flees into the crowd but Uso chases him. Solo Sikoa emerges from the crowd and hits Spinning Solo through a table. Sikoa drags Uso back to ringside and rolls him into the ring. Sikoa holds Uso as Reigns goes for a spear but Uso slides out of the way and Reigns inadvertently levels Sikoa with the spear.

Uso lands multiple chair shots to both Reigns & Sikoa so Reigns flees to the outside. Uso goes for a chair shot on the outside but Sikoa cuts him off with a superkick. Sikoa gets in Reigns’ face after Reigns speared Sikoa earlier in the match but that gives Uso time to spear Reigns through the barricade.

Uso positions Sikoa on the announce table and dives off the barricade through Sikoa and the announce table. Uso heads up top and connects with the Uso Splash to Reigns but a masked figure breaks up the pin and pulls Uso out of the ring & the mysterious man lowers his mask and reveals himself to be Jimmy Uso.

Jimmy superkicks Jey and rolls him back into the ring. Reigns spears Uso through the table in the corner of the ring for the win.

Winner & Still Undisputed WWE Universal Champion & Still Tribal Chief: Roman Reigns (36:05) (STILL CHAMPION!!!!!)
