Kairi Sane, IYO SKY and Chelsea Green are the first WWE stars to publicly react to the company’s decision to release several wrestlers on Friday.
WWE announced the release of Xia Li, Jinder Mahal, and Xyon Quinn on Friday night. The company also released Veer and Sanga overnight. They have 90-day non-compete clauses, so they won’t be able to freely sign with any promotion until the summer. As of this writing, only these stars have been released.
Li signed with WWE in 2017, where she worked the Mae Young Classic tournament, and again in 2018. Li worked the women’s Royal Rumble match in 2019 before making her NXT television debut a few months later.
She appeared in a vignette with Boa in November 2020, alongside a mysterious woman named Mei Ying (now Wendy Choo). They concluded their feud at the In Your House event with Mercedes Martinez before Li was drafted to SmackDown in October 2021, separating her from Boa and Ying. Li was assigned to WWE Raw as part of the 2023 Draft.
Her most recent match was on April 15th during the Main Event tapings, where she defeated Natalya.
As shown below, Sane, SKY and Green had an emotional reaction to Li’s release.
I don't want to believe it.
I'm really sad.
I don’t know how many times your kindness has saved me…Love you so much, @XiaWWE . pic.twitter.com/QdxVWAVuRS

Xia is one of my favourite people. We bonded at the performance center immediately ♥️ I’m sad to see her go, but she’s one of the most driven people I know. It’s only up from here!! https://t.co/CGF48pewDp
