WWE SmackDown Results – January 3, 2019
Last week, three men had a chance to battle for a chance to face Bray Wyatt for the Universal Title at Royal Rumble.
Daniel Bryan is in the back and The Miz shows up. Daniel asks what’s up. Miz says the Fiend violated his home and went into the room his daughter sleeps. He needs to avenge what the Fiend did. He will take away everything that he cares about, but you beat me last week to earn the right. While I figure out what to do next, he has one thing to say to him, defeat the Fiend, not just for him, but for everyone.
We are in Memphis, Tennessee and your announcers are Michael Cole and Corey Graves.
Sasha Banks and Bayley have something to say before their match.
Bayley says we all made it to 2020 and you have been thinking about your resolutions, but we know you aren’t going to follow through with any of them. Bayley says change is tough and you are not able to make a positive change in your pathetic lives. Bayley says they took a look in the mirror and they made changes. Bayley is the champion and Sasha is the standard. Then you have Lacey Evans . . .
Lacey says you can’t keep her daughter’s name out of their mouths. Lacey says she has fought this entire time and she is here to make a positive example. It makes her sick that you are using a seven year old to get to her. You have gotten to her. It is her New Year’s Resolution to show her baby and the entire WWE Universe that bad guys can be beaten despite the cards stacked against you.
Alexa Bliss says you want to tear each other apart and they can see the issues between you four and Alexa wonders if they belong in this match. Nikki says they do belong in this match if they want to get back their tag titles back.
Match Number One: Sasha Banks and Bayley versus Dana Brooke and Lacey Evans versus Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross
Lacey sends Sasha to the mat and then Sasha backs into the corner to avoid Lacey. Sasha tags Nikki in and Nikki with a series of rollups. Lacey with an inside cradle for a near fall. Lacey with an Irish whip and Dana tags in and slams Nikki for a near fall. Nikki with a jaw breaker and splash into the corner. Alexa tags in and takes Dana down with a side head lock. Dana with a head scissors and Alexa escapes. Dana with a side head lock and Alexa with a head scissors. Dana with a forearm and Bayley trips Dana after Sasha makes the blind tag.
Alexa slaps Sasha and hits a drop kick. Alexa is sent to the apron and Bayley tags in. Alexa with forearms to Sasha and Bayley. Alexa sends Sasha into the turnbuckles and Bayley knocks Alexa off the turnbuckles. Sasha with a running double knee strike and Bayley gets a near fall. Bayley chokes Alexa in the ropes and Sasha with a kick to the head. Bayley makes the tag and tags in Sasha. Sasha with a reverse chin lock. Sasha with a drop kick for a near fall. Alexa with an elbow and then Bayley knocks Dana off the apron. Sasha is sent into Lacey and they fall off the apron. Nikki with a cross body onto Dana, Bayley, and Lacey. Sasha sends Nikki into the ring steps as we go to commercial.
We are back and Sasha with a double knee drop but Dana with a shoulder tackle. Dana sends Bayley into the corner with Sasha and Dana with a handspring back elbow into the corner. Dana with suplexes to Bayley and Sasha. Dana with a twisting splash for a near fall. Bayley sends Nikki to the floor and then Dana sends Bayley to the floor. Bayley trips Dana and Sasha with a running knee for a near fall. Bayley tags in and they send Dana into the turnbuckles for a near falll.
Bayley kicks Dana as Lacey has some words for Bayley. Bayley backs Dana into the corner and she connects with forearms and kicks. Sasha tags in and hits a double knee strike for a near fall. Sasha chokes Dana in the ropes. Bayley tags in and connects with shoulders in the corner. Bayley knocks Lacey off the apron and Sasha tags in and Bayley with a belly-to-back suplex and Bayley gets a near fall. Dana with a forearm to Bayley and a kick to Sasha followed by a tornado suplex. Bayley tags in and Dana with an enzuigiri and Lacey tags in. Lacey with running forearms and an arm wringer to Bayley followed by a standing moonsault.
Lacehy floats over and snap mares Bayley. Lacey reaches for a napkin and she wipes herself down before kicking Bayley. Lacey with a hesitation Bronco Buster. Lacey goes up top for a double jump moonsault but Sasha pulls Bayley out of the ring. Bayley with a belly-to-belly suplex but Dana breaks up the cover and then Alexa and Nikki get in the ring. Nikki with a neck breaker to Dana followed by an STO to Dana. Bayley and Sasha with a double hip toss slam to Nikki. Sasha tags in and Lacey escapes the double hip toss slam and Sasha gets a near fall with a rollup. Dana makes the tag and Lacey with Woman’s Right and Dana with a Swanton for the three count.
Winner: Dana Brooke and Lacey Evans
We take a look at what Dolph Ziggler did to Mandy’s fruitcake.
Mandy stops by to say hello to Otis while Otis does curls with a keg. Mandy asks Otis if his mom made anything special for the holidays. Otis tells Mandy to ask Dolph. Mandy asks Otis if he saw it but Otis says his mom did and told him. Tucker tells Otis they have a match and they need to go to the ring.
We go to commercial.
We are back and Miz walks in the back and he sees the New Day making a 2020 design with pancakes. Big E asks Miz what he is celebrating and Miz says he isn’t celebrating much. Big E says he was watching the balls drop. Kofi says that his decade might not have ended that well, but he main evented Wrestlemania, married Maryse, and had two children. Kofi says that Miz had the most titles in the decade. Big E says that Miz is tied with Kofi. Kofi says here is to more titles in the 2020s.
Miz asks if this is about titles. The Fiend violated the sanctity of his home. Do you know what it feels like. Miz says if you want to start off the year right . . . Miz knocks the platter to the floor.
Kofi says if Miz wants to get out his frustrations, challenge accepted.
Miz tells Kofi happy new year and leaves.
Elias is in the ring and he has something to play. He sings about things he does not like about WWE. Elias sings about being in the Royal Rumble.
Cole talks about the recent events involving the Revival and how they are not the epitome of professional wrestling. We see the MIracle on 34th Street Fight.
We see Scott talking about what they have gone through. Scott wants to know how stupid that gimmick is. Scott says they better make some heavy New Year’s Resolution and at the top should be show them some respect. Dash talks about having to worry about Elias.
Shorty G enters and he says that they shouldn’t let what Elias or anyone else says about them. He says he stopped listening and embraced who he is.
Dash says he never thought of it that way and that you quit your job as the New Year’s Baby. Scott asks if his parents let him stay up past his bed time.
Shorty says he has a new motto, Rise over Size. When you are comfortable in your own skin, you can do anything.
Dash says Shorty can’t beat them in a match.
Shorty accepts Dash’s challenge.
Match Number Two: Shorty G versus Dash Wilder (with Scott Dawson)
Shorty with a wrist lock and Wilder with an Irish whip. Shorty floats over and hits a head scissors take down. Shorty with a suplex for a near fall. Wilder with a belly-to-back superplex for a near fall. Wilder with a rear chin lock. Shorty lands on his feet on a belly-to-back suplex attempt. Shorty with a back heel kick and suplex. Shorty with a cross body and both men go over the top rope to the floor. Shorty goes up top and hits a cross body but Wilder rolls through for a near fall.
Shorty with an ankle lock and Wilder rolls through and gets a near fall. Wilder with an Irish whip and Shorty floats over and gets a near fall with a sunset flip. WIlder drops Shorty on the top rope and Shorty with an ankle lock and Wilder taps out.
Winner: Shorty G
After the match, Scott Dawson attacks Shorty and they hit Shatter Machine on Shorty.
The lights go out and Sheamus is back.
Wilder and Dawson push Shorty at Sheamus and they leave the ring. Sheamus with a Brogue Kick to Shorty.
Match Number Three: Kofi Kingston (with Big E) versus Miz
They lock up and Miz with a wrist lock. Kofi with a reversal and leg sweep followed by a splash for a near fall. Kofi with a side head lock and Kofi with a shoulder tackle. Kofi with a monkey flip. Miz slaps Kofi’s hand away and Miz with a rollup for a near fall but Kofi with a rollup of his own. Miz with a side head lock and shoudler tackle. Kofi with a jumping back elbow and Miz sends Kofi to the floor. Miz misses a drop kick through the ropes and Kofi teases a dive to the floor when Miz moves.
Miz with kicks to Kofi and elbows to the collarbone. Kofi misses Trouble in Paradise and Kofi kicks Miz into the corner. Miz iwth kicks to the chest. Miz with a running knee into the corner followed by a second one. Miz runs into a pendulum kick from Kofi. Kofi goes up top and hits a chop to the top of the head. Kofi with a boom drop. Kofi misses Trouble in Paradise again but Miz can only hit the first half of Reality Check. Kofi and Miz with counters and then Kofi gets the three count with a rollup.
Winner: Kofi Kingston
After the match, Miz attacks Kofi from behind and Big E stops Miz.
Cathy Kelley is in the back and she is with Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns. Cathy asks about Daniel preparing for his match against The Fiend. Daniel says Miz is showing the effects of facing the Fiend. Daniel says he is the only one who has not crumbled after facing the Fiend. He will walk out of The Royal Rumble as champion.
Roman says that he will be entering The Royal Rumble and when he wins, the main event of Wrestlemania will be Roman Reigns versus Daniel Bryan. Roman says he has been waiting for this for a long time.
Daniel says he does not need to be fired up and he will be ready. He tells Roman to be ready for their match at the Royal Rumble.
We go to commercial.
We are back and Cathy Kelley is with Miz’ door and John Morrison walks out. Cathy wanted to get a word from the Miz and John says the Miz has nothing more to say tonight.
Drew Gulak says he is an expert on the dueling arts and affairs of the heart. He says that Mandy Rose will never date Otis. Mandy wants a man with a physique and a mind. Someone like Dolph Ziggler or himself. You look like you are leaking butter. Drew says he knows that Otis is not very bright so he has prepared a 372 slide POWER POINT PRESENTATION.
Otis brings Drew into the ring after seeing the title slide.
Match Number Four: Otis Dozovic (with Tucker Knight) versus Drew Gulak
Drew with punches but Otis with a throw.
We see Mandy and Sonya watching in the monitor room.
Otis with a suplex to Drew and then he presses Drew over his head and press slams Drew.
Dolph Ziggler stops by the monitor room to talk to Mandy.
Drew with a drop kick to the knee and he taunts Otis. Drew with a kick and it only enrages Otis. The shirt comes off and Drew kicks Otis. Otis with slams and a splash into the corner. Otis with a Caterpillar and elbow drop. Otis goes to the turnbuckles for the Vader Bomb and the three count.
Winner: Otis Dozovic
Braun Strowman walks in the back as we go to commercial.
Match Number Five: Braun Strowman versus Cesaro (with Shinsuke Nakamura and Sami Zayn)
They lock up and Braun pushes Cesaro away. They lock up again and go to a break. Cesaro backs Strowman into the corner and pushes him. Cesaro with a side head lock and shoulder tackle but Braun does not move. Cesaro with uppercuts and punches but Strowman with a shoulder tackle. Braun with a biel. Strowman blocks a kick and he puts Cesaro in the ropes and hits a splash into the corner. Cesaro drops Strowman on the top rope but Strowman with a punch and shoulder tackle that knocks Cesaro off the apron.
We go to commercial.
We are back and Cesaro with a sleeper and Braun backs Cesaro into the turnbuckles. Cesaro drop kicks the knee and Cesaro chokes Strowman in the ropes. Nakamura kicks Strowman while Zayn distracts the referee. Cesaro gets a near fall. Cesaro with a rear naked choke and turns it into a sleeper. Strowman with a splash into the corner and Strowman punches Nakamura to knock him off the apron. Cesaro with strikes but Strowman with a shoulder tackle. Braun signals for the lap of Brauning and he hits Cesaro and Nakamura. Zayn goes under the ring to hide from Strowman. Strowman knocks down Cesaro again.
Zayn tries to interfere but Strowman stops him. Cesaro sends Strowman into the ring post. Cesaro goes for the Gotch Style Neutralizer but Strowman counters with a power slam for the three count.
Winner: Braun Strowman
After the match, Nakamura with Kinshasa to Strowman.
We go to commercial.
We are back and next week Lacey Evans faces Sasha Banks.
Match Number Six: Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan versus Dolph Ziggler and Baron Corbin
Reigns and Corbin start and Baron with kicks in the corner. Roman with punches and a Samoan drop that sends Corbin to the floor. Roman with a Drive By to Corbin and Ziggler tries to distract Roman. Corbin returns to the ring and Corbin with a knee to the midsection and then Ziggler tags in. Roman with a boot to the chest. Bryan tags in and he kicks Corbin off the apron and Bryan sends Ziggler to the floor with a back body drop.
The Fiend laughs and the lights flicker.
We go to commercial.
We are back and Roman with NeverEnding Story to Baron followed by a running boot. Roman sets for the Superman punch and he punches Ziggler off the apron. Baron with Deep Six for a near fall. Corbin sends Roman shoulder first into the ring steps. Corbin slams Roman’s head on the announce table. Ziggler tags in and Roman with punches after Ziggler taunts him. Ziggler with a neck breaker and Corbin tags in. Corbin sends Roman shoulder first into the ring post. Corbin sends Roman into the ring post shoulder first another time. Corbin does it a third time. Corbin slides around the post but Roman with a Superman punch.
Ziggler and Bryan tag in and Bryan with punches. Bryan flips out of the corner and hits a flying clothesline. Bryan with a running drop kick into the corner. Bryan with kicks in the corner. Bryan sets for a Frankensteiner and hits it. Bryan with kicks to the chest. Bryan misses the round kick and Ziggler with a rollup. Bryan goes for the LeBell Lock but Corbin breaks it up. Roman with a spear when Bryan escapes a choke slam. Ziggler with a super kick to Roman and then he goes for the Zig Zag in the corner but Bryan avoids it.
Bryan with the flying knee and then the lights go out.
The lights come back on and it is red in the building as The Fiend shows up at ringside. Bryan with a suicide dive and he sends The Fiend into the ring post. Bryan comes off the apron and The Fiend with a mandible claw and he sends Bryan through the ringside barrier. The Fiend with another mandible claw.
The lights go out again.
The lights come back on and we see the carnage at ringside.
Roman checks on Bryan and Baron attacks Roman from behind. Ziggler gives Corbin the handcuffs and he puts them on Roman. Ziggler gets the dog food and gives it to Corbin.
The music for the Usos play and they super kick Ziggler and then they super kick Corbin. Jimmy and Jey with stereo planchas onto Ziggler and Corbin.
We go to credits.
