TMZ Sports spoke with Adam Pearce about Jay Briscoe’s passing. Peace stated the following:
“Last night I got the news like everyone in wrestling did and I was breathless. You know, this is a contemporary of so many of ours and somebody that we all loved. It’s a cliche to say that, but I mean, I can’t think of anybody that ever encountered Jay Briscoe that wouldn’t tell you the same thing. He was an incredible performer. As you listen to accolades and the championships, I mean, it was on and on and on. He and his brother Mark are, for my money, one of the greatest tag teams in the history of our business and that’s not hyperbole. I believe that. I shared many a ring with them, many a locker room. I dealt with them in every facet of our industry. Most of all, he was my friend, and I am dumbfounded that this happened and, God, my heart goes out to his family.”
“The thing that has always kind of endeared me most to him is his love for his family. He was an incredible father, an incredible husband. I know his mom and dad and his wife and I am just beyond myself without having any idea what to say to anybody. How do you comfort a family that you’ve known for, God I met Jay and Mark in, it had to be 2005, almost 20 years ago, and you just don’t have the words, man. You just don’t have the words, but I want the world to know, beyond the wrestler that he was, the Ring of Honor Hall of Famer that he is and always will be, Jay Briscoe was an incredible father and family man. I know that he valued that more than any accolade in wrestling.”
