WWE NXT Review – September 19, 2023

Kicking off this week’s NXT with a recap of last week’s main event where Becky Lynch won the Women’s Title from Tiffany Stratton.

Women’s Champion Becky Lynch took the mic and noted that The Man has come back to NXT. Lynch said her world tour with the Women’s Title continues because she brings the fight every damn night. She said it doesn’t matter the name because the game is all the same.

Lynch continued her rap including the names of NXT women roster members. Lynch then told the crowd she loves them and how she’s here to represent them. Lynch notes that Tiffy time is over. Lynch then gave Tiffany Stratton for pushing her to the limit. Becky said because of that, she can have a rematch whenever she wants. Lynch calls Stratton an Idiot and arse hole. Lynch was about to praise Stratton but Stratton made her entrance to interrupt.

Stratton noted that the rematch is not optional because she deserves a rematch. Stratton said she knows that Lynch is a WrestleMania main eventer, The Man, the #1 girl but I am Tiffany Stratton Stratton said. She said she’s the future of WWE and the future 2x Women’s Champion. Stratton proposed the rematch tonight before she pulls the rug and said it wasn’t happening. Stratton noted the losers in the crowd were cheering her before Lynch show up.

Stratton then proposed the rematch to happen at No Mercy & Lynch said the result will be the same not because Stratton is not good enough but because she’s not hungry enough. Lynch said she saw people who got the rocket put on their back get turned entitled. Stratton said NXT with the crowd feels like the NXT she grew up in. Lynch said after all this time she knows she wants the Women’s Title more than Stratton. Stratton noted that Lynch wouldn’t have return if she didn’t get called out.

Stratton said if she didn’t call out Lynch, Lynch would. Lynch said that Stratton is a better fighter than a talker and they should go against each other punch for punch. Lynch threw the first punch and a brawl ensued. Kiana James ran out to give them a 2 on 1 advantage. Stratton went for a chair shot but Lynch managed to fend off both women as Lynch swung the chair to cause James & Stratton to retreat.

NXT Tag Team Champions The Family looking at pictures of potential NXT Tag Team Titles Contenders. Tony D’Angelo then started talking about their post show dinner. D’Angelo said he likes the Creed Brothers being straightforward. They said they respect Angel Garza & Carrillo. The Family then proposed Hank Walker & Tank Leger vs. Bronco Nima & Lucien Price to see if they deserve to be in the conversation.

McKenzie Mitchell interviewed Ilja Dragunov about how he’s heading to a rematch for the NXT Title. Ilja said he’s still suffering from the wounds Wes Lee gave him last week but he’ll keep going. He said at Bakersfield he’ll the mad dragon will cover his wings in gold. Becky Lynch walks into the scene and Dragunov allowed her to speak. Becky challenged Tiffany Stratton & Kiana James to a 2 on 1 Handicap match.

We head over to the Meta Four lounge where Meta Four is being interviewed by Kelly Kincaid.

North American Champion Dominik Mysterio ran into Trick Williams backstage. Williams noted that Mysterio has a knack for sucking all the positive energy in the room. Mysterio said NXT Carmelo Hayes’ taking the L tonight. Mysterio said he also empathizes with Williams being in Hayes’ shadow, like he & Rey Mysterio. Mysterio tried to recruit Trick into Judgment Day. Williams refused and said nothing will put a wedge between Trick Melo Gang. Dom said he used to say the same about he and his Deadbeat Dad Rey.

Block A Match Of The 2023 Global Heritage Invitational
Tyler Bate (4) vs. Butch (3)

Tyler Bate advances with a win or draw.

Butch advances with a win.

Butch starts the match with some joint manipulation but Tyler Bate escaped with a leg scissors. Butch saw Bop & Bang coming and simply slaps Bate then after some dodges Bate managed to catch Butch with Bop & Bang for a near fall. Bate fends off Butch to the corner with alternating hooks before Butch forces Bate back with a right hand.

Bate shows off technical dodges before Butch steps on Bate’s foot and clocks Bate with a right hand. Butch punched Bate out of the air with a right hand. Bate used a chop to stagger Butch on the top rope. Bate hits Butch with an delayed vertical superplex as we go to a break.

After the break Butch & Bate were trading punches in the center of the ring. Butch got the upper hand with some ground and pound then Bate escaped an X Plex and hits Butch with a standing Shooting Star and Saito Suplex for a two count. Butch reversed a Tyler Driver into an armbar. Butch tried to break the hold with overhead elbows.

Bate deadlifted Butch into a helicopter spin which had extra spin to it. Bate hits Butch with a brainbuster for a two count. Alicia Taylor gave the 2 Minute Warning. Butch reversed a Tyler Driver 97 into his own Tyler Driver 97 for a near fall. Bate reversed the Bitter End to a DDT. Bate hits Butch with Bitter End for near fall.

Bate hits Butch with a rebound lariat. Butch used the knees to block a spiral tap. Butch hit Bate with Bitter End then goes for the cover but Bate kicks out as there was less than 30 seconds left Butch hits Bate with Better End for the win.

Winner: Butch (5) (11:50) (Butch wins Block A) (Recommend)

After the match Butch hugs Bate.

Jacy Jayne & Thea Hail hanging out at the designer clothes store. Hail noted that she had to go here to not be a kid anymore. Hail was embarrassed to come out in one of the outfits. Jayne convinced Hail to walk out. Jayne said the red outfit looked good but was a bit much. She said the black one was ok but they need more leather.

Jacy liked the leather one, but then liked the one that showed more skin. Jayne really liked the last set of clothes, that they didn’t show on camera. Jayne said she can’t wait until the world sees the new Thea Hail.

Block B Match Of The 2023 Global Heritage Invitational
Joe Coffey (4) vs. Duke Hudson (2)

Joe Coffey advances with a win or draw.

If Duke Hudson wins we will have a Triple Threat Tiebreaker Match.

Joe Coffey & Duke Hudson had a stalemate no selling a few shoulder tackles. Hudson managed to get Coffey off his feet with a tackle. Hudson connects with a hurricana on Coffey. Coffey got a two count off a backdrop. Joe tackled Hudson to the corner and gave him gut punches. Coffey gave Hudson a flapjack on the rope and followed up with boots.

Coffey hits Hudson with a backbreaker for a two count. Hudson got to his knees and fended off Joe with right hands. Duke went for Bionic Elbow but Coffey rolls to ringside then Coffey tossed Hudson into the apron. Coffey hits Hudson with a missile dropkick.

Coffey hits Hudson with a deadlift German. Coffey hits Hudson with a flying knife strike before Hudson ducks a discus lariat as he rolls Coffey up for the win.

Winner: Duke Hudson (4) (3:48) (Since Hudson won we will have a Triple Threat Tiebreaker Match)

Kelly Kincaid interviews Nathan Frazer & he was hyped to still be in the Heritage Cup Title picture. Frazer said that he’s excited that they’ll have a Triple Threat tiebreaker next week. Kincaid informed Frazer that the triple threat is happening tonight. Frazer liked this and darted off to get ready.

A Robert Stone tweet showed Robert Stone leaving the hospital and wishing Von Wagner well in his recovery.

Roxanne Perez vs. Lola Vice

Roxanne Perez & Lola Vice traded wrist holds before Perez got a series of near falls on Vice then Vice trips Perez to block an old school. Vice works on Perez with a few restholds. Vice hit Perez with an axe kick. Vice hit Perez with a sacrifice armbreaker for a two count.

Vice reversed a legsweep into a grounded hammerlock. Perez rolls out and gave Vice a series of short arm right hands. Perez escaped and gave Vice a seated Senton. Perez gave Vice a shotgun dropkick.

Perez gave Vice the 10 punches in the corner. Vice escaped and trips Perez. Perez dodges a spinning roundhouse. Vice escaped Pop Rocks then Vice tried to put Perez in an arm submission but Perez rolls up Vice for the victory.

Winner: Roxanne Perez

Eddy Thorpe walks up to his tree in the forest. He looked sad because Dijak took off some bark from the tree with his belt. Thorpe calls Dijak a coward. Thorpe said he might have a savage inside of him, a merciless Indian Savage before he said that Dijak desiccated his tree. Thorpe challenges Dijak to a Strap Match.

Becky Lynch met up with Roxanne Perez in the locker room. Lynch said Perez has been kicking ass in NXT. Perez said she took a page out of Lynch’s book by not letting people run over her. Perez proposed being Lynch’s tag team partner against Kiana James & Tiffany Stratton. Lynch said she respects the offer but Perez needs to ice up that injured arm.

Champion vs. Champion Match
North American Champion Dominik Mysterio vs. NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes

Dominik Mysterio attacks Carmelo Hayes during his entrance then Mysterio poses with the NXT Title but was blindsided by Hayes.

Hayes gave Mysterio a snapmare then Mysterio rolls to ringside to avoid a superkick. Mysterio avoided a baseball slide but took a right hand. Mysterio managed to turn the tables by giving Hayes a snake eyes on the barricade.

Hayes recovers and draped Mysterio on the ropes & hits Fadeaway then he hits Mysterio with a La Mistica for a two count as we go to a break.

After the break Mysterio had Hayes in a rest hold but Hayes fought out but Mysterio came back with a head slam to the mat. Dom went for 3 Amigos but he only hit 1 Amigo after Hayes reversed it into Final Cut.

Hayes kicks Mysterio a few times and gave him rapid punches in the corner. Hayes hits Mysterio with a Pumphandle Uranage for a two count before Mysterio came back with a pump kick and DDT for a two count.

Mysterio dialed it up with a Catapult and hits Hayes with 619 before Hayes avoided the splash and hits Mysterio with a Codebreaker. Mysterio trips Hayes off the top rope. Hayes accidentally tossed Mysterio into Ilja Dragunov.

Mysterio then recovers and tossed Hayes into Dragunov then Mysterio then slaps Dragunov in the face & this fired up Dragunov who ran in the ring and beat down Mysterio & the ref calls for the bell.

Winner By DQ: North American Champion Dominik Mysterio

After the match Dragunov hits Mysterio with H Bomb before he went for Torpedo Moscow but Mysterio pulls Hayes in front of him to get Hayes to get hit. Mysterio tried to retreat but got hit by a superkick from Dragon Lee. Dragon Lee posed with the North American Title while Hayes & Dragunov glared at each other in the ring.

Trick Williams was watching the match backstage frustrated because of the match outcome. Joe Gacy & Ava showed up to give Williams a lecture about loneliness. Ava said Williams looks covered in loneliness. Williams said that’s not loneliness, it’s olive oil. Gacy tried to recruit Williams into The Schism but Williams refused. Ava & Gacy left trying to sow seeds of decent between Williams & Hayes saying that Hayes would have had a better outcome if he accepted Williams’ help.

Andre Chase was coaching a gassed Duke Hudson on potentially winning the Global Heritage Invitational. Hudson said Joe Coffey is as big as an ox and Nathan Frazer is as fast as Usain Bolt. Chase then asked Hudson who’s the MVP, spoiler, representative of Australia, NXT and Chase U? Hudson yells I am. Let’s f*cking go. Hudson & Chase ran off.

Scrypts, Bronco Nima & Lucien Price were in a random alley playing dice  with random people. After they hustled people out of their money, they were sizing up the NXT Tag Team division while counting money. Scrypts said he loves their bond and that’s why he’s with them. Scrypts noted that Price & Nima know how it is going to sleep no dinner, fast losers slow winners, reaching in yo pocket and nothin there, but whatever it is they gotta eat. then all 3 counting their cash.

McKenzie Mitchell interviewed Hank Walker & Tank Ledger about the last segment. Walker said they know how tough Nima & Price are but they aren’t going anywhere. Ledger said it was time to turn up. Walker accepted the match that Tony D’Angelo proposed between them against Nima & Price

Triple Threat Tiebreaker Match
Joe Coffey vs. Duke Hudson vs. Nathan Frazer

Nathan Frazer took down Joe Coffey with a dropkick and used an elbow to take Duke Hudson off the apron. Coffey recovers and hits Frazer with a crossbody. Frazer knocks Coffey off the apron with a gamengiri before Hudson hits Frazer with an elevated flapjack for a two count.

Hudson & Coffey no sold standing lariats. Coffey managed to get Hudson to his knees with a right hand. Coffey also clocked Frazer with a right hand. Duke managed to get to his feet to trade hands with Coffey again. Frazer picks up speed and knocks Coffey & Hudson to ringside with a shotgun dropkick. Frazer hits Hudson & Coffey with a suicide dive.

Frazer traded punches with Hudson and had the momentum. Duke came back with a corner uranage. Coffey drags Hudson’s crotch into the ring post heading into a break.

After the break Frazer rallies at Joe with punches, but he was planted by a body slam. Frazer used a victory roll for a two count. Coffey hits Frazer with a pop up uppercut and flying knife strike. Hudson rolls up Coffey again during his finisher attempt for a near fall.

Hudson went for and hits Coffey with Chase U Bionic Elbow. Coffey hits Hudson with a sidewalk slam for a near fall. Frazer caught Duke with a superkick. Frazer hits both Hudson & Coffey with a Moonsault DDT for a two count on both men.

Frazer missed a slingshot. Frazer caught a flying Coffey with a superkick. Hudson hits Frazer with a slingshot German suplex. Hudson caught Coffey with a big boot. Hudson hit Frazer with a Black Hole Slam for a two count. Hudson hits Frazer with a Helicopter Bossman Slam for a two count as Coffey broke up the pin.

Hudson dumps Coffey to ringside. Frazer hits Hudson with a Frankendriver. Frazer hits Hudson with a Phoenix Splash. Coffey tossed Frazer to ringside. Hudson recovers but got hit by Coffey’s lariat for the win.

Winner: Joe Coffey (Coffey wins Block B) (He will face Butch in the Finals)

After the match Butch enters the ring to face off with Joe Coffey.

McKenzie Mitchell interviewed Mustafa Ali. Ali said everyone should be in an uproar that Dragon Lee is getting a title shot before he did. He said he promised Dragon Lee a title shot after he won the North American Title but a graphic randomly showed up on Raw to give Lee the North American Title shot. Ali said how does a man he beat get the North American Title shot before him. Ali said neither Dominik Mysterio or Dragon Lee deserve the North American Title shot because Mysterio is a criminal and lee is a liar. He said he’s gong to deal with it at Raw.

Tiffany Stratton & Kiana James were warming up with bicep curls.  They were on the same page and trading complements. Stratton teased a surprise for Becky Lynch later.

Becky Lynch was shown leaving the locker room.

Josh Briggs, Brooks Jensen & Fallon Henley were hanging out backstage watching a replay of their loss last week. Briggs argued about it being Henley’s fault that Miles Borne betrayed them. Henley tried to defend Borne as a good guy hanging out with the wrong people. Briggs & Henley argued. Baron Corbin shows up and told everyone to shut up so he can enjoy his massage. Briggs said it’s good that Corbin can still hear after Bron Breakker popped his eardrum last week. Briggs & Corbin traded a few verbal jabs.

Carmelo Hayes interview in the parking lot & he promised to beat Dragunov at No Mercy and he’ll tell Dragunov where Dragunov stands next week.

Women’s Champion Becky Lynch was making her entrance but she gets jumped by Kiana James & Tiffany Stratton & they carried the beatdown to the ring. Lyra Valkyria ran in to even up the numbers. Valkyria & Lynch clears Stratton & James from the ring. James & Stratton tried to leave but Lynch & Valkyria drags them back to the ring. The bell rang once both teams were back at the ring.

Tag Team Match
Womens Champion Becky Lynch & Lyra Valkyria vs. Tiffany Stratton & Kiana James

Lynch tossed James around the ring. Lynch then forced a tag and drags Tiffany Stratton in the ring. Lynch dominated and gave Stratton a stinger splash in the corner. Lyra Valkyria tags in. Becky & Valkyria gave Stratton alternating kicks. James tags in and got put in a headlock by Valkyria.

Lynch blind tags in and gave James a facebuster for a two count then Lynch dumps James to ringside and gave James a baseball slide. Lynch gave James a diving right hand. Valkyria gave Tiffany a wrecking ball dropkick as we go to a break.

Stratton trips Lynch off the top rope then James & Stratton cut the ring in half on Lynch. Lynch managed to rally with right hands. James trips up Lynch and went back to isolation offense. Tiffany tagged in. Lynch avoided a backflip elbow. Lynch managed to get the hot tag to Valkyria & she cleans house with right hands and right feet.

Lyra took down James & Stratton with a springboard crossbody. Lyra hit James with an axe kick combo and a northern lights suplex then goes for the pin but Stratton broke it up & after trading counters Lynch & Valkyria draped James & Stratton on the 2nd rope and hits both with draping leg drops.

Valkyria got a two count on James. Stratton trips up Valkyria off a springboard. Stratton then tossed Lynch into the ring post.

James hits Valkyria with a pumphandle powerbomb. Stratton tags in and hits Valkyria with a Swanton Bomb then goes for the pin but Lynch broke it up. Lynch caught James with a missile dropkick. Lynch hits Stratton & James with DDTs at the same time.

James kicked out at two but Lynch went right into the Disarmher but James escaped. Valkyria tags in. Lynch hits James with Manhandle Slam then Valkyria hits a Frog Splash for the victory.

Winners: Women’s Champion Becky Lynch & Lyra Valkyria

After the match Stratton clears the ring with a chair. Stratton hits Lynch in the back with a steel chair. Stratton then posed with the Women’s Title and tossed it on Lynch as Stratton walks up the ramp. Lynch took a mic and said that her match against Stratton will be an Extreme Rules match.
