NXT Review – January 31, 2023

Tag Team Match
Creed Brothers vs. Indus Sher

Julius Creed & Veer Mahaan lock up to get this match started then they go back & forth with right hands before Mahaan whips Julius into the corner. Brutus Creed & Sanga tag in. Sanga whips Brutus into the corner and then tags Mahaan back in. Mahaan delivers a right hand to Brutus’ head then follows it up with an elbow drop and a series of kicks.

Brutus sends Mahaan into the corner and then tags in Julius. Julius delivers a right hand to Mahaan then delivers a double hip toss with the help of Brutus. Julius then delivers a gutwrench to Brutus on top of Mahaan before Sanga tags in and begins to beat down Julius.

Mahaan tags in and delivers a series of knees then tag Sanga back in. Sanga sends Julius face first into the top turnbuckle then delivers a kick to his spine. He whips him into the corner then delivers a splash and a reverse DDT. He hits a knee, then rains down right hands across Julius’ spine. Mahaan tags in and Julius delivers an enziguri.

He makes the hot tag to Brutus, who comes exploding in and knocks Mahaan down. He then delivers a side suplex then follows it up with a German suplex and the Brutus Smash. Julius tags in and delivers a standing shooting star press then goes for a pin but Sanga breaks up the fall.

Julius delivers a powerbomb, then follows it up with a Death Valley Driver while the referee is distracted, Mahal grabs Julius’ leg. Ivy Nile gets in his face and Julius runs the ropes. He doesn’t see Nile and sends her crashing off the apron. Indus Sher takes advantage of the chaos and Sanga tags in before he delivers a chokeslam for the win.

Winners: Indus Sher

We go backstage and see Axiom watching A-Kid’s matches from his time in NXT UK. Tyler Bate walks in and says he was always a fan of his, then asks what happened to him. He tells Axiom that he reminds him of A Kid. Axiom says he gets that a lot then challenges him to some friendly competition. Damon Kemp walks in and says European wrestling is overrated. Axiom says if he sees A Kid, he will pass on the message.

Zoey Stark vs. Indi Hartwell

Match starts off with a lock up. Zoey Stark rolls to the outside but Indi Hartwell follows her out there and sends her spine first into the apron. She tosses Stark back into the ring then delivers a big boot to her head and plants her. Stark hits a snapmare then delivers a sliding lariat.

Stark & Hartwell go back & forth with chops before Stark whips Hartwell into the corner. Hartwell returns the favor then delivers a side slam. Stark sends Hartwell’s head bouncing off the top rope then goes flying before she rains down right hands.

Stark delivers a boot to Hartwell’s face before Hartwell sends Stark to the mat. She delivers a pair of clotheslines, then hits a spinebuster and goes for a pin. Stark kicks out and delivers a roundhouse kick to Hartwell then follows it up with a German suplex.

Hartwell lands on the apron then looks to go flying but Stark trips her. She then delivers Z 360 for the win.

Winner: Zoey Stark

After the match Stark rains down right hands on Hartwell but Sol Ruca runs down to the ring to make the save.

After the break, we head to a video from Apollo Crews in Charlotte North Carolina. He says he went there ahead of Vengeance Day to feel the energy of the city, then says he’s ready for his 2 Out Of 3 Falls Match against Carmelo Hayes. He says he’s better than Hayes and tells Trick Williams if he wants to get involved he will take him down.

North American Champion Wes Lee heads down to the ring.

Lee says Vengeance Day is 4 days away and his biggest challenge yet awaits him in Dijak. He says he will rise just like he did when he faced Tony D’Angelo & Carmelo Hayes.

Dijak tells him to soak things in because these will be his final days as North American Champion. Dijak says he had every chance to hand him the North American Title but now he has to stand across from the biggest and baddest man in NXT as he rips his North American Title away from him.

Lee tells Dijak that’s exactly what he’ll have to do. He says he has overcome every obstacle and tribulation put in front of him, and support from the fans have shown him he can reach levels he didn’t think he could. He says Dijak is not just fighting him, but all the fans.

Von Wagner’s music hits, and he appears alongside Mr. Stone. Stone says he thought he misheard Dijak when he said he was the biggest and baddest. He asks him if he forgot about Wagner before Wagner tells Dijak to take off his sunglasses. Lee interrupts them and says he sees an injustice that needs to be fixed. He suggests that if Wagner were to beat Dijak tonight then he would be seen as a championship contender.

Dijak & Wagner then begin to brawl before Wagner clotheslines Dijak to the outside.

Dijak vs. Von Wagner

Dijak & Von Wagner waste no time raining down right hands on one another. Wagner delivers a running knee, then hits a fallaway slam that sends us to a break. After the break Dijak delivers a clothesline to Wagner. Dijak looks for a chokeslam but Wagner fights his way out. Dijak delivers an elbow, but Wagner fires back with an exploder into the corner.

He gets Dijak up on his shoulders but Dijak escapes. Wagner catches him with a running knee, but Dijak manages to deliver a superkick. Wagner delivers a big boot then goes for a pin but Dijak kicks out. Wagner looks for a chokeslam but Dijak escapes and delivers one of his own. He goes for a pin but Wagner kicks out.

They ascend to the top rope before Wagner delivers a corkscrew pedigree off of it. He looks to follow it up with a slam but Dijak counters it into a submission. Wagner escapes before Dijak delivers Feast Your Eyes for the win.

Winner: Dijak

We head backstage to Tony D’Angelo & Stacks. D’Angelo tells Stacks to forget about Dijak, and asks if he took care of those two things. Stacks says he has and they walk off.

We go backstage to McKenzie Mitchell, who is about to review the footage of the attack on Nikkita Lyons in the parking lot last week and who was nearby the scene. She points out Valentina Feroz walking away then sees Alexis Lete,Ariana Grace & Dani Palmer walking into the arena. She points out an unidentified woman driving off in a white car, then shows Elektra Lopez & Lola Vice walking away from the scene.

She points out Tiffany Stratton going through her bag on top of a car, then questions if she could’ve used something in there to attack her. She then points out Zoey Stark walking away from the scene, then points out Tatum Paxley & Lash Legend luring in the background.

As Indi Hartwell & Lyra Valkyria run in to check on Lyons, Mitchell notes Wendy Choo observing everything from in a car. She says no one has claimed responsibility for the attack just yet.

Back from the break we head to a video showing the events leading up to the NXT Steel Cage Match on Saturday.

Tyler Bate vs. Axiom

Match starts off with a lock up then they go back & forth with submission holds before Axiom delivers a dropkick. Tyler Bate then sends himself and Axiom crashing to the outside over the top rope.

Back from the break Bate hits an airplane spin to Axiom. He follows it up with a right hand before Axiom delivers one of his own. He then delivers an enziguri and a running kick, then locks in a Sleeper. Bate escapes and Axiom catches him with a superkick.

Bate delivers a lariat off the ropes then looks for the Tyler Driver 97. Axiom reverses the move into a pin, and Bate kicks out. Bate looks for the move again but Axiom reverses it into a hurricanrana the 3rd time’s the charm for Bate as he looks for the Tyler Driver 97 once again & hits it again for the win.

Winner: Tyler Bate (Recommend)

After the match they shake hands before Damon Kemp comes in out of nowhere and blindsides them with an attack. He delivers a Choke Backbreaker to Axiom then retreats.

We head to a video of Isla Dawn casting a spell. The camera pans out and we see that she is teaching Alba Fyre. They complete the ritual and Dawn says that the initiation process has begun.

Vic Joseph welcomes Women’s Champion Roxanne Perez & Toxic Attraction via satellite, then asks Perez what entering the Women’s Royal Rumble was like. Perez says it was overwhelming, then expresses her gratitude for the moment. Jacy Jayne cuts her off, then says it was pathetic and she didn’t win the match. She says it will all be over for Little Miss Perfect real soon and she has no chance of beating them.

Gigi Dolin says she’s good but she has no chance when some goes up against the two baddest woman. Perez tries talking, but Jayne cuts her off and says she’s peaked at 21 years old. Dolin says she messed with Toxic Attraction & Jayne tells her she can play the what if game. She tells her it will be 2 against 1 at Vengeance Day. Perez angrily walks off due to the attitude of Toxic Attraction and benign cut off.

Joseph asks Toxic Attraction who will be the new Women’s Champion and Dolin says that they both will be. She says this day has been a long time coming, then says the course of the women’s division will shift when she before correcting herself to say we becomes the Women’s Champion

Out of nowhere Perez runs in and attacks Toxic Attraction destroying their set in the process.

After the break McKenzie Mitchell is with Carmelo Hayes & Trick Williams. Williams is shivering and Mitchell says he seems scared. Williams says that he’s cold then questions if he should come to Vengeance Day. Hayes tells him that he obviously should then addresses Apollo Crews and says until he gets 2 Out Of 3 Falls then he will never be the best.

Stevie Turner vs. Dani Palmer

Match begins with a lock up then Stevie Turner delivers a pair of big boots then delivers a few kicks to the side of her head. She delivers a running boot then hits a neckbreaker. Palmer delivers an arm drag and a splash then hits a Thesz Press. Turner fires back with a pump kick and a DDT then drops her for the win.

Winner: Stevie Turner

We go backstage to Kiana James telling Zack that she loves him. Fallon Henley questions who she was talking to, then says she knew she would hurt Brooks Jensen. They begin to argue before NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions Kayden Carter & Katana Chance walk in questioning the descension between the two of them. Henley and James brush it off then say they will become the new NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions at Vengeance Day. Chance & Carter walk off and Henley tells James while they need to stay focused, their conversation is not over.

Charlie Dempsey vs. Drew Gulak

Match starts off with a lock up then Drew Gulak tosses Charlie Dempsey across the ring, and they exchange submission holds with one another that sends us to a break.

We are back from break Dempsey delivers an uppercut and a dragon screw. He follows it up with a pair of double underhook suplexes and a German suplex but Gulak fires back with a clothesline.

Gulak slaps Dempsey but Dempsey responds with some offense of his own. He then locks in a Crossface Chicken Wing as Hank Walker encourages him from the outside. Gulak escapes when Dempsey is sent into Walker on the outside then rolls up Dempsey for the win.

Winner: Drew Gulak (Recommend)

Mr. Stone asks him who he is then says he knows just as much as the fans do. He tells Wagner to show him who he is inside so that he can help Wagner help himself.

Triple Threat NXT Tag Team Title #1 Contenders Qualifying Match
The Dyad vs. Chase U vs. Edris Enofe & Malik Blade

Match starts off with Duke Hudson & Rip Fowler lock up. Hudson delivers a body slam then tags in Andre Chase. Edris Enofé tags himself in then locks up with Chase. Enofé delivers a dropkick, then tags in Malik Blade. Blade delivers a boot to Chase’s face before Jagger Reid tags himself in.

Reid delivers a series of right hands to Chase then sends him to the outside where Fowler is waiting. Fowler tags in and The Dyad delivers an assisted piledriver before Fowler sends Chase bouncing off the apron chest first.

He tosses him back in the ring then plants him. Reid tags back in and knocks Hudson off the apron. Chase delivers a back body drop but he has no one to tag in. He then looks to tag in Enofé & Blade but The Dyad pulls them off the apron. They then deliver some double team offense to Chase before Hudson recovers and tags in.

Hudson whips Reid into the corner, then delivers a big boot that sends Reid to the outside. He tosses him back in, then hits a German suplex and goes for a pin. Reid kicks out, and Hudson looks for a kick but Blade tags himself in and takes out Hudson. Enofé tags in, and Blade delivers a splash.

Enofé hits a crossbody, and the pair deliver a double team variation on a fallaway slam. Blade goes for a pin but Chase U & The Dyad break it up. Reid is now legal and he teeters on the top rope along with Enofé.

Fowler joins them up there before Chase tags himself in and pulls everyone down. He delivers the Chase U Stomps to Reid but Ava Raine distracts him. Thea Hail takes her out as Hudson tags in and Chase U delivers the Fratliner for the win.

Winners & Gets Into The NXT Tag Team Title Match At Vengeance Day: Chase U

After the match Gallus & Pretty Deadly appear to Chase U. NXT Tag Team Champions New Day then appears on the Titan Tron and Kofi Kingston congratulates Chase U. Xavier Woods says they will see them, Pretty Deadly & Gallus on Saturday.
