NXT Review – February 7, 2023
Kicking off this week’s NXT with a recap of Vengeance Day from this past Saturday.
Trick Williams says Vengeance Day will go down as the day Carmelo Hayes changed Apollo Crews from a vision seer into Stevie Wonder. Hayes then gloats about his win and then says the NXT Universe knows he is everything he says he is. He says history doesn’t lie and says he did what he said he would. He says there is still one man who needs to get put on a t shirt. He says only one event can hold them both but before he can finish his sentence, JD McDonagh’s music hits and he cuts him off.
McDonagh says his ears must be deceiving him and says it sounds like he was about to challenge for the NXT Title. He says Hayes comes from an entitled generation, and while he loves calling himself The A Champ, he isn’t ready to be the face of NXT. Hayes says he thought he beat everyone but it seems as if he left a survivor. McDonagh cuts him off and says while he counts merchandise sales, he counts body parts. He tells Hayes he should call the hospital in advance because that’s where he’s going to send him. Hayes then challenges McDonagh to a match and McDonagh accepts.
We then head backstage to NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions Fallon Henley & Kiana James. Henley says she saw James cheat in a replay, and says they’re going to give Kayden Carter & Katana Chance a rematch. Henley then asks James if she’s going to tell Jensen who she was talking to last week, and James says it was no one. They then enter a room, where members of the NXT roster are waiting inside to surprise them with a surprise party.
After the break we head to a video of Grayson Waller getting in Shawn Michaels’ face during the Vengeance Day media call. Vic Joseph announces that due to his actions, Waller has been suspended for the week.
Sol Ruca vs. Zoey Stark
Match starts off with a lock up then Sol Ruca delivers an arm drag then follows it up with a shoulder tackle and a facebuster. She clotheslines Zoey Stark to the outside then follows her out there and hits a kick. Stark delivers a forearm then whips her into the corner and hits a sliding lariat.
She sends Ruca’s head bouncing off her knee then hits a clothesline and a few right hands. Ruca delivers a clothesline of her own then follows it up with a dropkick and a splash in the corner. Stark delivers a superkick before Ruca looks for a splash off the top rope. Stark gets her knees up, then delivers Z360 for the win.
Winner: Zoey Stark
After the match Stark continues to beat down Ruca. She whips her into the corner, but Ruca manages to land on the middle turnbuckle and plants her with the Sol Snatcher.
We are back from the break we head to Fallon Henley & Kiana James’ NXT Women’s Tag Team Title celebration. James thanks Brooks Jensen for throwing the party, and Henley asks her if there’s something she wants to tell him. James says she already thanked him and brushes her. A rough looking Pretty Deadly appears, and 1 of the partygoers asks what happened to them. Pretty Deadly says it’s because they lost the NXT Tag Team Titles then take note of Chase U and say they’re the reason they failed to regain them. Andre Chase doesn’t take too kindly to this, and says he would be happy to kick their asses later tonight.
Dabba Kato vs. Dante Chen
Dabba Kato pushes Dante Chen to the mat. He delivers an overhand chop then sends him crashing into the mat and follows it up with a headbutt. Chen fires off a series of right hands and chops but Dabba Kato pushes him off him. Chen delivers a big boot but Dabba Kato pushes him down to the mat and delivers a sit out chokeslam for the win.
Winner: Dabba Kato
After the match Kelly Kincaid asks Dabba Kato attacked Crews at Vengeance Day. Dabba Kato says Crews knows what he did and he will kick his ass.
We then head to a video of Diamond Mine. Ivy Nile is being checked on by a medical official after being knocked to the floor off the apron accidentally last week. Creed Brothers agree that they need to get Indus Sher back for causing the injury before the medical official clears Nile. Isla Dawn & Alba Fyre walk in and Dawn asks Paxley why she was outside when Nikkita Lyons was attacked a couple weeks ago. Paxley says she didn’t attack Lyons and says she was only out there because she needed some fresh air. Dawn says an innocent person wouldn’t say that and they walk off.
Isla Dawn vs. Tatum Paxley
Match starts off with a lock up then Isla Dawn targets Tatum Paxley’s arm but Paxley fires back with a back elbow. Dawn delivers a leg drop then sends her bouncing off the top rope. She stomps on Paxley’s neck but Paxley manages to deliver a back elbow.
She follows it up with a series of forearms and a dropkick that sends Dawn into the corner then charges at her. Dawn delivers a boot, and Paxley ascends to the top.
She looks for a crossbody but Dawn rolls out of the way and delivers a modified elbow drop for the win.
Winner: Isla Dawn
After the match Dawn & Fyre look to continue attacking Paxley but Ivy Nile runs down and makes the save.
We head outside the arena and see a car pull up. Someone get out of it but only their feet are visible.
Carmelo Hayes vs. JD McDonagh
Carmelo Hayes & JD McDonagh lock up to kick this match off then McDonagh delivers a few knees to Hayes’ midsection. Melo looks to hit his signature pose but McDonagh kicks him while he looks to do so this angers Hayes and he hits McDonagh with a shoulder tackle before sending him to the outside. He follows it up with a crossbody over the top then gets him back in the ring. Hayes delivers a chop and several forearms but McDonagh plants him face first. He rains down right hands, then delivers a back suplex and sends him bouncing off the top rope.
Back from the break McDonagh whips Melo into the corner before Hayes fires back with a body slam. McDonagh manages to deliver a Spanish Fly then follows it up with a double stomp and ascends to the top. Hayes meets him there and delivers a pair of kicks, then follows it up with Fade Away. Hayes fires off several rapid rights and lefts then delivers a cutter and plants McDonagh face first.
He locks in a Crossface but McDonagh gets his foot on the bottom rope to break the hold. He rolls up McDonagh but McDonagh bridges up and hits a powerbomb. He follows it up with a headbutt and right as he does so, Ilja Dragunov’s music hits and he runs down to make his return. Dragunov levels Williams as Hayes takes advantage of a distracted McDonagh then he rolls him up for the win.
Winner: Carmelo Hayes (Recommend)
After the match Dragunov stares down Hayes then attacks McDonagh. McDonagh retreats but Dragunov chases him out of the arena while Williams & Hayes celebrate.
We head backstage to Tiffany Stratton applying lipstick. Thea Hail approaches her and says she saw the Tik Tok she made about Chase U. Stratton calls her a fan, and Hail lists off a bunch of reasons why Chase U is great. Stratton calls Chase U cringey and Hail becomes increasingly frustrated. She tries calming herself down, but Stratton keeps running her mouth. Hail says Stratton only cares about herself but all she cares about is Chase U. She says Chase U opens their arms to anyone and if she’s not down for that, then she can suck it. Ava Raine then appears behind her and drags her out of the room.
After the break we head to Fallon Henley & Kiana James’ party. Henley tells Brooks Jensen & Josh Briggs the party is awesome, then says she has something to tell him. Jensen says he has something to tell her, and says that he had a Valentine’s Day date last week with the love of his life. He asks Henley what she had to tell him and Henley says she just wanted to thank him for the party.
Lyra Valkyria vs. Valentina Feroz
Match starts off with a lock up then Valentina Feroz delivers a suplex but Valkyria fires back with a hip toss. She delivers a series of kicks to Feroz then delivers a belly 2 back suplex as Elektra Lopez makes her way to ringside.
Feroz delivers a Tijeras before they level one another with headbutts. Lopez tosses Feroz a pair of brass knuckles and she grabs them.
She puts them on her hand, but before she can use them, Valkyria delivers a spinning heel kick for the win.
Winner: Lyra Valkyria
We go backstage to McKenzie Mitchell is with the North American Champion Wes Lee. Mitchell asks Lee what Vengeance Day weekend was like for him and Lee says it was dope. Tony D’Angelo & Stacks walk in and D’Angelo tells Lee that he reaped the benefits of their issues with Dijak after they inadvertently helped him win at Vengeance Day. He says they expect to be paid. Lee informs them that he will be holding an open challenge next week, and says maybe one of them will answer.
We come back from the break, we head to a video from Tyler Bate. He tells Grayson Waller that if he wants to disrespect Shawn Michaels then maybe he should try disrespecting him next week too.
Stacks vs. Odyssey Jones
Match starts off with lock up then Odyssey Jones delivers a massive clothesline then fires off several right hands and tosses Stacks across the ring. Stacks delivers a leg drop but Jones fires back with a pair of splashes and a side slam.
He follows it up with a running elbow that sends Stacks to the outside, then follows him out there and hits a splash. He gets Stacks back inside, but Stacks catches him with a DDT.
He then delivers a right hand to his head and follows it up with a knee to the back of his neck for the win.
Winner: Stacks
Tag Team Match
Chase U vs. Pretty Deadly
Match starts off with Duke Hudson & Elton Prince lockup. Hudson delivers a shoulder tackle, and Prince looks for a chop. Hudson no sells it and delivers one of his own then whips Prince into the corner. Hudson delivers a pair of right hands then clotheslines Prince to the outside. Prince gets back inside and tags in Kit Wilson.
Andre Chase tags in and delivers a drop toe hold. Wilson asks what the point is and looks to leave but Chase keeps him from doing so. Prince tags in and Pretty Deadly accidentally deliver a double back elbow. Wilson tags in and Pretty Deadly begin getting their confidence back.
Hudson tags in and delivers a body slam then steps on Wilson’s fingers. He hits a body slam then charges at Wilson. Prince lowbridges him to the outside and Wilson sends Hudson crashing over the ring steps that sends us to a break.
After the break Hudson makes the hot tag to Chase. Wilson tags in and Chase delivers an inverted atomic drop. He locks in a Figure 4 but Prince breaks the hold. Chase delivers a double DDT to Pretty Deadly, then goes for a pin but Wilson kicks out. Prince tags in and sends Chase bouncing off the top rope.
Chase fires back with a side Russian leg sweep, then delivers the Chase U Stomps. Thea Hail runs down to ringside as Wilson tags in. Hudson comforts her as Wilson beats Chase down. Prince tags in and Pretty Deadly delivers Spilled Milk for the win.
Winners: Pretty Deadly
After the match new NXT Tag Team Champions Gallus appears with their NXT Tag Team Titles in hand and stares down Pretty Deadly.
We head backstage to Hank Walker & Drew Gulak. They float the idea of Walker answering Wes Lee’s North American Title Open Challenge next week. Charlie Dempsey walks in and tells Walker he isn’t ready for a match like that. Dempsey then challenges Walker to a re match, and Gulak accepts it on Walker’s behalf.
After the break Bayley walks in through the Ding Dong Hello door and greets fans at her talk show. She says she loves NXT and her guests tonight, then introduces Toxic Attraction. They head to the ring, but side eye one another and argue who gets in the ring first.
Bayley asks Toxic Attraction what happened on Saturday. They begin arguing, and Jacy Jayne says Gigi Dolin cost her the Women’s Title. Dolin says Jayne was the one who cost her, and Jayne says they were supposed to be a team. Dolin says Jayne would’ve sunk into obscurity if she were to win and Jayne takes a shot at Dolin’s gear. Dolin says she was surprised she saw her gear when she was looking up at the lights.
Bayley asks each of them what they would do if they were to split, and Dolin says she hasn’t give it much thought, but the sky’s the limit. Jayne says her plan is to go straight to the top. Bayley asks them if that would be easier to have a ride or die to do it with, and Dolin questions what the locker room must think of her. Jayne does the same, then says Bayley knows better than anyone there is strength in numbers.
Dolin says she needs someone who she can trust, and Jayne says when she gets angry, she goes for the jugular. She tells Dolin no matter what happens, she is her sister. Dolin echoes the sentiment, and Jayne says they can either go their separate ways or have one more run together.
They then think about going after the NXT Women’s Tag Team Titles or even the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles. Bayley tries shoving the idea out of their heads, and they hug one another.
Jayne holds Dolin’s hand up, but superkicks her out of nowhere and shoves her head into the Ding Dong Hello door as Dolin begins sobbing.
