WWE Hall of Famer Registers Trademarks for His Previous Ring Names

WWE Hall of Famer Charles Wright has filed a trademark application through trademark attorney Michael E. Dockins for his former ring names, Papa Shango and The Godfather.

On January 18, he filed a patent for entertainment services with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

The following is a description of the filings:

“Entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibits and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer; Entertainment services, namely, live appearances by a professional wrestling and sports entertainment personality; Entertainment services, namely, personal appearances by a professional wrestling and sports entertainer; Entertainment services, namely, televised appearances by a professional wrestler and sports entertainer; Providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network; Providing online interviews featuring a professional wrestler and sports entertainer in the field of professional wrestling and sports entertainment for entertainment purpose.”

Wright rose to fame in the early 1990s as Papa Shango in WWE matches. His Godfather persona, which he first used with the Nation of Domination, made its debut in 1998.

The Godfather last appeared in a WWE match in 2013, when he made an unexpected appearance during a Royal Rumble match.

JBL and Ron Simmons of the APA inducted the veteran wrestler into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2016.
