With SummerSlam in the rearview mirror, the WWE is continuing its overseas PLEs. WWE presents “Bash In Berlin” from the Uber Arena in Berlin, Germany, on Saturday, August 31st, at 1 p.m. EST/ 10 a.m. PST, streaming on Peacock.
We will see some familiar faces, as well as some new teams and champions headlining the PLE. Let’s look at the matches on the card and my predictions on who will leave the Uber Arena victorious.
WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship Match: The Unholy Union (Alba Fyre & Isla Dawn) (c) vs. Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill
No knock to any of the four women in this match, however, the Women’s Tag Team Championship has never been a huge deal or have been given a big push. The way the title is rarely defended and changes hands frequently is proof of that.
At one point I believed Cardgill & Belair could have been the most dominant WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions in history. However, their run was short-lived. That still seemed to make sense when thinking about a heel turn and a possible Jade Vs Bianca match at a place like SummerSlam, but that did not happen either.
Frye & Dawn are the champions here, however nothing in their title reign so far has been memorable. This is not entirely their fault as they haven’t been utilized the way they could be on WWE television.
While the Unholy Union may retain here, I think WWE will put the titles back on Jade and Bianca, as they were never pinned when they lost their titles in the Triple Threat Match. They also need another run with the titles until the inevitable split comes between them, which should happen and be built up for one of the big four PLEs.
Prediction: Jade Cargill & Bianca Belair defeat The Unholy Union to become new champions.
Strap Match: CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre
WWE has done a great job of telling a long-term story while keeping it fresh and relevant. These two superstars have been battling for months, yet this is only the second match of the feud.
This feud is not ending here. There needs to be a rubber match between these two, so I can’t see anything other than CM Punk winning here.
Whether Punk wins the match and gets his bracelet back or Drew attacks him after the win and leaves with the bracelet, these two are heading for a third match.
Prediction: CM Punk defeats Drew McIntyre.
Damian Priest & Rhea Ripley vs. Dominik Mysterio & Liv Morgan
This match seemed inevitable since SummerSlam. While WWE doesn’t often do intergender tag team matches, it absolutely makes sense and needs to happen.
You can say that the numbers game from New Judgement Day may play into this and cost Priest & Ripley the match. However, I think Priest & Ripley need the win more here, especially since both of their matches were losing efforts at SummerSlam.
I’m looking for the Babyfaces to win here, but their feud with the New Judgement Day is far from over!
Prediction: Damian Priest & Rhea Ripley defeat Liv Morgan & Dominick Mysterio.
WWE Undisputed World Championship Match: Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Kevin Owens
It feels like this match came out of nowhere and was put together just to have the WWE Undisputed Championship match on the card.
There is no doubt these two will put on a great match. And I think a Kevin Owens heel turn is on the horizon, lengthening this feud.
Whether it happens here or later, one thing is certain: Cody Rhodes will win this match and retain his title.
Prediction: Cody Rhodes defeats Kevin Owens and retains the WWE Undisputed World Championship.
WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match: Gunther (c) vs. Randy Orton
This match is an excellent first-title defense for Gunther, and it makes sense, given how the King of the Ring finals ended between these two.
My only problem is that Randy Orton is a Smackdown wrestler competing for a Raw World Championship. Often, superstars from one brand show up on the other brand, which begs the question: What is the point of the WWE Draft?
Now that I’ve said that, this should be a hard-fought match, ending with Gunther coming out victorious to start one of many title defenses during his reign.
Prediction: Gunther defeats Randy Orton to retain his championship.
