While many were hopeful that with Bound For Glory being in Chicago this year, that “The Best in the World” could show up at the company’s biggest annual premium live event, as we saw this past Saturday night, CM Punk did not show up at the show at Cicero Stadium.
He did, however, turn up at the Bound For Glory Fallout taping the following night in the same venue, and by all accounts, was said to be “very helpful” and in good spirits behind-the-scenes at the show.
Some have pointed to Punk’s past appearance backstage at an IMPACT taping in Chicago combined with his appearance and how it went backstage at Cicero Stadium on Sunday night as evidence that Punk could still end up in IMPACT Wrestling at some point in the future.
It was thought by some that bringing in Ace Steel as a producer was to try to get to Punk, however the company was reportedly expressing interest in him dating back to the first time he was released from AEW and Punk wasn’t available regardless.
Those close to Punk said he did not seem interested in signing with IMPACT Wrestling as recently as a few weeks ago, however there are others that insist that Punk is the type of person who could wake up one day and just decide he wants to wrestle Josh Alexander, The Motor City Machine Guns or someone else on the IMPACT roster and could simply make it happen.
Obviously a big road block in such a situation playing out would be the financial side of things, as Punk was reportedly earning in excess of 10-to-15 times what top IMPACT stars are making right now during his recent run in AEW.
