While speaking at Planet Comicon in Kansas City over the weekend, IWGP Women’s Champion Mercedes Mone indicated that she is interested in working for more promotions in 2023 including Impact Wrestling and AEW.
She said, “When is it,” she said when asked about appearing at Forbidden Door. Mone was told that the pay-per-view happens in June. She said, “June so far, I think I could be open, July might be open but I gotta get that phone call. Gotta get that phone call from unc.”

AEW President Tony Khan was asked about her comment and whether she will be at the show by Adrian Hernandez of The Bet Las Vegas & The Sporting Tribune:
He responded, “It’s a very encouraging thing to hear and I have so much respect for Mercedes. I think she’s such a great pro wrestler. Certainly, she’s one of the best in the world and any wrestling company in the world, including AEW, is very fortunate to have Mercedes. Currently, she’s the world champion for our partner, New Japan Pro-Wrestling,” Khan stated. “I think she’s a great champion for them and I’m glad she brought up Forbidden Door because that’s gonna be a very exciting event. Certainly, the shadow of Mercedes is looming large in New Japan Pro-Wrestling right now and when AEW and New Japan clash at Forbidden Door, it’ll be very interesting to see what happens. Certainly, she’s one of their top stars in New Japan so, it makes for a very interesting situation going forward going into Forbidden Door.”
