Toni Storm stated via SB Nation interview that she is retiring from AEW and pro wrestling, which was stunning.
Storm reportedly apologized for “being such a failure” and stated that fans should not expect to see her in any other promotions such as NJPW or CMLL. Storm admitted, “I’ve failed at everything. I lost in AEW, I lost in Japan, I lost in Mexico. This is the last you’ll hear from me again. Enjoy Mariah May as your champion. You can all enjoy that”
Storm stated that she has had no communication with Tony Khan over her intention to quit and is now at a “undisclosed location.” She also mentioned that supporters should not expect to hear from her again.
The interview concluded with a variant of her trademark quote: “Chin down. Tits are in. Don’t bother looking for the sneaker.
Storm lost the AEW Women’s World Championship against Mariah May on August 25 at the All In pay-per-view. She hasn’t appeared on TV since then.
Needless to say, the retirement announcement appears to be simply setting up the storyline for her future return.
Mariah May will celebrate her championship triumph alongside Mina Shirakawa on Saturday night’s AEW Full Gear pay-per-view. If Storm is returning, this is an ideal time for it to happen.
