The Rock Completes Filming For “The Smashing Machine”

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has completed his latest Hollywood project.

The former WWE Champion is playing an MMA fighter in a drama from A24, the same studio that produced “The Iron Claw,” a film about the rise and fall of the Von Erich family that was released in 2023.

Rock has collaborated with director Benny Safdie, who directed “Uncut Gems” on “The Smashing Machine,” to play Mark Kerr, a two-time UFC Heavyweight Tournament Champion.

In 2002, HBO aired a documentary titled “The Smashing Machine” about his professional career and rise in MMA, as well as his painkiller addiction, which resulted in an overdose. Kerr earned the nickname “The Smashing Machine” due to his fighting style.

Safdie also penned the project. Johnson and Dany Garcia’s Seven Bucks Productions, Safdie’s Out for the Count banner, Eli Bush, and David Koplan will all produce the film.

According to Hollywood North Buzz, The Rock’s filming schedule in Vancouver has concluded. The majority of the production took place on a Tokyo Dome ring set at Vancouver’s Pacific Coliseum, as he reflected on his several Pride Fighting Championship fights.

The film is expected to be released in 2025.
