
Former WCW star and NFL legend Steve “Mongo” McMichael has entered hospice care as he continues his courageous battle with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis).

According to WGN in Chicago, McMichael is being removed from a ventilator in the ICU and will transition to a hospice facility for ongoing care. This follows a recent medical complication involving MRSA and a blood transfusion.
McMichael, 66, was diagnosed with ALS in 2021, and the disease has since taken a severe toll on his health, including dramatic weight loss and the loss of his ability to speak.

Known for his toughness and charisma, McMichael was a key figure in the legendary 1985 Super Bowl-winning Chicago Bears team. In February 2024, he was honored with induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, a long-overdue recognition for his storied NFL career.
Following football, McMichael found a second home in World Championship Wrestling (WCW) during the 1990s, working as both a wrestler and commentator. He was a member of the iconic Four Horsemen faction, joining wrestling legends such as Ric Flair, who remains a close friend.
