The World Wrestling Entertainment, or better known as the WWE, is one of the world’s leading sport entertainment shows on the planet. The massive competition has been around for a fair deal of around 100 years, and is still going strong to this day. Granted, the sport has changed a lot in this time.
In the early days, the WWE was a simple all-out brawny professional wrestling competition, however nowadays the sport has a more complex and unique approach towards being focused more on the entertainment factor, rather than the all-out plain fighting, which made it more commercial than it had ever been. It’s well known out there that the sport is mostly scripted, however do not let this statement fool you. What you see out there in the ring is complete skin-to-skin contact that sends out wrestlers in a similar physical state to that after a small car crash. This is due to the fact that you cannot utilise “camera magic” or special effects in front of a huge live audience, being able to see the fight from practically any perspective around the ring.
Throughout the years we have seen a great deal of incredible wrestlers setting foot in the WWE ring. For sure some have definitely shown more promise than others. Whether it’s simply for an entertainment factor, all round fighting skills, or being punters’ favourites when betting at the best online casino with the odds almost always on their side, these wrestlers have really made a big name for themselves amongst the whole world.
Hulk Hogan
The Hulkster, who is also known to be the embodiment of “Hulkamania”, was the biggest celebrity to ever set foot in the World Wrestling Entertainment ring. His prime fighting age was in the 1980s, which was a great era in the history of the championship. Millions of fans of all ages were astonished by this superhero-like persona. Hulk’s charismatic charm and his golden boy looks convinced the CEO of the WWE, Vince McMahon, to permanently give him the title for the world wrestling federation (WWF), which he will be honoured with till his last breath. Thanks to his “all-American hero” persona, he was the perfect contender, and he has managed to earn more money than any other pro wrestler in WWE history.
His most memorable bouts of his career include the main event at Wrestlemania III against Andre the Giant and many of his epic, thrilling fights against Randy Savage.
No other wrestler managed to overcome the awesome fame and success that Hulk Hogan brought upon himself thanks to the WWE in 40 years, therefore he will always remain a legend of the sports show.
Stone Cold Steve Austin
Stone Cold Steve Austin, also known as the Texas Rattlesnake, is the pro wrestler who came closest to rivaling the Hulkster when it comes to fame within the mainstream. Although we must say it’s thanks to the WWE’s new style of product that he managed to reach this fame, as the WWF decided to promote a show that’s more “edgy” than ever before, managing to produce some of the most thrilling WWF series yet. Let’s call it the attitude era. Who else would be a better face than Mr. Stone Cold himself?
Steve Austin represents the average working-class male, building a feud against the upper hand of the establishment. This made the guy’s fame as potty mouthed, beer downing anti-hero a living legend, whose popularity rocketed at an amazing rate.
He also has a very clear battle ongoing with Vince McMahon, who’s always trying to take away his chances for the title by bribing corporate patsies to screw him over as referees. McMahon would even later hire the Rock, who had it out for Austin to take the WWF championship from his hands, after he had won it 6 times.
Mr. Austin has surely had his fair share of epic stone cold moments at the WWE, and it sure seems like he’s gonna be here a while more.
John Cena
YOU CAN’T SEE ME! We all know who John Cena is. He’s pretty much the name and the face of the WWE industry at this age. Not only is he the embodiment of the company in one of the hottest generations yet, he has also won the WWE Championships 9 times.
He was a headliner in so many WrestleManias we can’t even count them on our fingers. He’s also been involved in a number of heated rivalries and feuds, and currently he is battling it out with the one and only CM Punk. He has had an unforgettable feud with Randy Orton which in 2009 sold more pay-per-views than any other WWE rivalry in history, while he also fought some amazing title matches with Shawn Michaels, JBL, Triple H, and even the Batista.
