AEW TBS Champion Jade Cargill will attempt to go 54-0 this Wednesday when she defends her title in an Open Challenge on AEW Dynamite from Winnipeg, Ontario, Canada. Cargill has stated that she intends to defend the belt against a Canadian.
According to Fightful Select, there are several rumored Canadian names who could respond to Cargill’s challenge. LuFisto, Jody Threat, The Bunny, Nicole Matthews, Impact Knockouts World Tag Team Champion Rosemary, as well as AAA Reina de Reinas, Impact Knockouts World Tag Team & MLW World Women’s Featherweight Champion Taya Valkyrie, are among those speculated.
Rosemary is still under contract with Impact but can accept select outside bookings, though AEW dates are unlikely to be included without proper clearance. The Bunny is currently sidelined due to an unidentified injury. Threat is still a free agent based in Ontario, and she recently wrestled in Winnipeg. Matthews is still based in Vancouver, but has been traveling to work in the US more recently.
The veteran LuFisto expressed interest in joining AEW, and there were some informal discussions about possibly bringing her in as a coach, but nothing came of it. She worked a six-woman match for Elevation on April 6, 2022 in Boston, teaming with The Bunny and Emi Sakura for a loss to Anna Jay, Ruby Soho, and Skye Blue. LuFisto was not Cargill’s planned opponent as of last Thursday.
Valkyrie is currently working as a free agent for various promotions. She has some MLW dates booked through next month, but she is available to appear on AEW Dynamite if they want to bring her in.
