WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair recently revealed a deeply personal struggle he faced during his storied wrestling career: agoraphobia.
Speaking candidly on Busted Open Master’s Class, “The Nature Boy” described the crippling anxiety he experienced, particularly while traveling for shows.
“I had agoraphobia. I would get it, and it’s when you’re afraid to leave the room,” Flair said. “I used to have to drive to the airport, and I’m biting myself because I couldn’t feel my fingers. I’d be in the ring and I couldn’t feel my hands. Anxiety is brutal.”
Agoraphobia is an anxiety disorder marked by intense fear of situations where escape might be difficult or help unavailable in the event of a panic attack or severe anxiety. For someone constantly traveling and performing under high-pressure conditions, it can be particularly challenging.
Flair’s comments shed new light on the immense pressure top-tier performers face behind the scenes — even legends like himself, known for their larger-than-life personas.
Despite his condition, Flair continued to deliver iconic performances and remain one of the most decorated and enduring figures in professional wrestling history.
