According to Fightful Select, sources within AEW have noted that WWE has shown strong interest in the same talent pool AEW is targeting. However, they believe WWE’s handling of Stephanie Vaquer’s situation, such as pulling her from previously scheduled appearances with CMLL, was not the right approach.
The report also highlighted that Vaquer’s rapid transition to WWE, after working the company’s shows in Mexico and joining the NXT brand, sparked additional criticism due to how quickly the deal was finalized.
While WWE is pleased with Vaquer’s performance, and she has enjoyed her time with the promotion, her departure from CMLL was reportedly handled properly. However, AEW sees things differently and feels the situation could have been managed better.
Sources within AEW and NJPW believe that moving forward, changes should be made to prevent talents from immediately signing with WWE during co-promoted shows. The idea is to establish agreements ensuring that wrestlers are either under contract or have a clear understanding before transitioning to WWE.
