The National Wrestling Alliance loves to give back whenever possible, especially in ways reflecting the company’s grassroots, community-focused traditions.
Last week three NWA stars partnered with an Illinois retailer to collect donations for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. The Walmart Supercenter in Hodgkins, IL, invited fans to meet NWA standouts Natalia Markova, Bryan Idol and Sheri Shaw, all featured on NWA programming and The CW reality series Billy Corgan’s Adventures in Carnyland, for a good cause.
The meet and greet opportunity included autograph signings, photos with the stars and ample time for personalized interactions. All proceeds benefited the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago.
“Thank you to the NWA for your generation time, donations and fun company,” said Hodgkins Walmart employee Kyle Kalbfleisch. “You guys had a great and lasting impact on our associates and customers.”
The NWA event was one in a series of fundraisers organized by Kalbfleisch and his Walmart associates this year. The Hodgkins team brought in a total of $21,384 for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals benefiting Lurie Children’s Hospital.
“Helping kids in need?” said Shaw, an award-winning musician now tasked with creating entrance music for the NWA’s top names. “Come on! I would do this every day if I could!”
“It felt great to be part of something that has an impact beyond the world of professional wrestling,” agrees Idol, both an in-ring talent and the recently announced NWA National Promoter.
He hopes the wrestling company participates in more such events moving forward. Idol says he’s already contacted additional retailers regarding similar fundraisers in cities which will host future National Wrestling Alliance events.
“NWA live events are so focused on the fans and offering incredible family and community experiences,” he says, “To me, events like this add an all new layer to that, allowing the NWA stars to give back to the people and communities which give us so much as wrestlers.”
