As PWMania.com previously reported, Miro and Ricky Starks were officially granted their AEW release requests on Monday, making them free agents with the ability to sign with any promotion of their choice.
Miro has been absent from AEW programming since Worlds End 2023. The former TNT Champion was reportedly earning a seven-figure salary after initially signing with AEW in September 2020. His contract, originally set to expire in spring 2022, was extended for four more years, keeping him under contract until spring 2026.
According to Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp, Miro had been discussed for potential creative plans in 2024, as he remains healthy and ready to compete. However, sources indicated that communication on his status had gone “radio silent” for quite some time before his release was finalized. In fact, Miro had not been included in creative discussions for the past six months, with most AEW personnel doubting he would return.
With his release, speculation has already begun about a potential WWE return. Miro, formerly known as Rusev in WWE, made a name for himself in the company before joining AEW in 2020. Now, with his future wide open, it remains to be seen where he will land next.
