Mexican Pro Wrestling Legend Black Terry Passes Away At 72

IRWG and Riot Lucha Libre announced the passing of Black Terry, a legendary figure in the Mexican wrestling scene, who worked with CMLL, IWRG, and other promotions. He passed away at the age of 72, though details surrounding his death have not yet been revealed.

Black Terry, whose real name was Esteban Mares Castañeda, enjoyed a remarkable 50-year career, making his debut in February 1973. He competed for numerous promotions but was most notably associated with CMLL, where he wrestled under the ring name Guerrero Maya, and teamed up with Guerrero del Futuro. In IWRG, he achieved significant success, having three reigns as the IWRG Intercontinental Welterweight Champion and one reign as the IWRG Intercontinental Tag Team Champion alongside Diablo Jr. I. Terry also held the CMLL Arena Coliseo Tag Team Championship from late 2016 until July 2017, partnering with Negro Navarro.

Although he had begun to wind down his career in recent years, Terry remained active in the ring. Most recently, he competed at the CVW Love And Hate event in late February, where he teamed with Kundra to defeat Terry 2000 and Tormento Jr.

On behalf of PWMania.com, we send our condolences to the family, friends, and fans of Black Terry.
