TNA World Tag Team Champion Matt Hardy appeared on an episode of his “Extreme Life of Matt Hardy” podcast and discussed several topics, including AEW stars Cope and Christian Cage reuniting in 2025.
Hardy said, “That bold prediction I made about Edge and Christian will team again in 2025 is going to become a reality. I think we’ve kind of seen the seeds planted for it as it is. But I am — I’m pretty positive it’s going to happen now. And I feel like it’s one of the strong cards that AEW can play. And you know, I don’t blame them for doing it because I think Edge and Christian back together is going to be a tremendous move. I think it’s going to be great for both of them, and I think people will be really excited to see them back together. There’ll be a lot of nostalgia. But both those guys are still amazing, and they can still perform their asses off. So it really is a shame that there was at one point where myself, Jeff, Edge, and Christian were all under the same roof at AEW, and there was no kind of interaction between the four of us. That really was a shame.”
On if not getting Edge and Christian vs. The Hardys in AEW bothered him:
“No, it’s just not smart that it didn’t happen. It doesn’t bother me per se, but I mean it’s something that should have happened. It would have been an instant, great moment that would have sparked a lot of interest and talk.”
On why it didn’t happen:
“It didn’t happen just because they had those guys in singles roles where those guys weren’t together. It’s one of those things, you would had to make some sort of decision, find a way to put them together on the same side to make it happen. I think, I mean in theory, I guess we could have found some kind of scenario where we had Cope out there as a good guy, Christian as a bad guy, and we could have been out just as we were, as good guys as well, and we could have interacted in some capacity. But I think for there to be some sort of teaser that there’s going to be a match or some sort of us teaming together, or us interacting in some sort of match together, I think we would probably needed to change some of the current booking they had. And I don’t think they wanting to do that at the time.”
