Jerry “The King” Lawler recently signed a new contract with WWE.
On the latest edition of his Dinner with the King podcast, Lawler revealed that he signed a two-year contract with WWE. Lawler said his deal with WWE comes up on January 10 every year, and he texted Kevin Dunn — WWE Executive Vice President, Television Production — a reminder about it on January 8. Lawler said he was offered a two-year deal with a raise the next day.
“Basically, it’s a personal service contract that everybody signs, same type thing, and it just says you belong to the WWE,” Lawler said.
“When it comes to services, it may be commentating, may be doing voice-overs for the video games, maybe hosting, maybe personal appearances; all this sort of stuff is in the contract, personal services.”
Lawler also said he’s going to be on commentary for the Men’s Royal Rumble Match. Lawler believes he’ll call the match with Michael Cole and JBL. Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona is hosting the pay-per-view event next Sunday.
Lawler briefly appeared on Raw last Monday, which took place in his hometown of Memphis, Tennessee. He was shown coming out of Vince McMahon’s office during a backstage segment where Raw Superstars were waiting outside about wanting to challenge Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship at the Royal Rumble. The segment ended with Lawler looking bewildered as No Way Jose’s conga line danced past him.
