Jay White has been officially pulled from the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament, where the winner will go on to challenge for the AEW World Heavyweight Championship at All In: Texas. The announcement was made during this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, with the storyline explanation being that White was attacked by the Death Riders and is no longer medically cleared to compete. However, no footage of the alleged attack was shown on the broadcast.
Behind the scenes, the situation appears to be more serious. According to Fightful Select, White is dealing with a legitimate injury and is expected to undergo surgery.
On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that the injury is believed to be to White’s hand, saying, “So, what did you hear? I heard Jay White broken hand and surgery.” Co-host Bryan Alvarez added, “I heard that Jay White was injured, but I guess surgery. I just heard it was not expected he was going to be out a really long time, whatever that means, but he’s out. It’s a legitimate injury.”
While the exact timeline for White’s return remains unclear, Alvarez’s comment suggests that the injury, though legitimate, may not result in an extended absence. Nonetheless, his removal from the tournament is a significant shake-up, as White had been positioned as a strong contender heading into All In: Texas.
We’ll continue to provide updates as more information becomes available regarding Jay White’s condition and AEW’s plans moving forward.
