As PWMania.com previously reported, Steve “Mongo” McMichael, former NFL and WCW star, was diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, in 2021.
McMichael was admitted to the hospital on February 15th, 2024, with suspected pneumonia. McMichael was later diagnosed with a urinary tract infection. McMichael’s family stated that he was admitted to the ICU and prescribed three antibiotics.
On Saturday, his family provided the following statement:
“Steve is currently getting a blood transfusion and has MRSA. We are asking for your prayers to get Steve through this difficult time. Steve, his family and close friends believe in the power of prayer. Thank you.”
Just prior to his hospitalization, McMichael was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 2024.
