Former World Champion Becomes a Free Agent, Potential Target for WWE or AEW

Even though 2023 has only just begun, there is already talk about where the next free agent in wrestling will sign.

Sasha Banks (Mercedes Varnado) is legally free to work and wrestle for other wrestling promotions, as was previously mentioned, and there is another name on the free agent market who might catch the attention of AEW or WWE.

Former NWA World Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis is now a free agent. Aldis actually left the promotion several weeks ago, but his contract did not expire until December 31.

It is no secret that Bruce Prichard is not a fan of Aldis, and there appeared to be issues between them when they were both in TNA/Impact Wrestling, but with Triple H running things backstage, it appears as if the likelihood of WWE giving him a look has increased.

NWA’s Billy Corgan and Aldis fell out last year. In an interview with Sportskeeda this past November, Aldis stated the following:

“Free agency. That’s it, dude. I know it’s been suggested that there must be something else. Truthfully, I want to explore free agency. I just want to be free of a contract and a certain brand commitment, a sort of branding of any kind for a minute and just see what comes next

“It was just time to move on, that’s all. I have businesses. I have Legacy Sports Nutrition and we have some other businesses that we are working on. As far as wrestling, at this point, I feel like I can deliver wherever. I just love the business and I feel like I can contribute to a pretty high level. But at the same time, if I’m gonna spend time away from my son, and I’m gonna take bumps, I gotta be feeling it. It’s gotta be something that I’m passionate about. I’ve gotta be feeling it. I’ve gotta feel like it’s going somewhere.”
