As previously reported by PWMania.com, the main event of WrestleMania 40 has seemingly changed in an instant following WWE legend Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s surprise appearance in the closing moments of this past Friday night’s episode of SmackDown.

“The American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes was in the middle of the ring taking part in a segment with Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns. Rhodes gave up his WrestleMania 40 main event spot and introduced The People’s Champion, which led to a faceoff between Rock and Reigns. This has resulted in several members of the WWE Universe reacting negatively to the upcoming blockbuster showdown.

WWE fans made it perfectly clear during the company’s recent live event in Knoxville, Tennessee that they are not happy about the change made to the main event of WrestleMania 40 by booing The People’s Champion when a replay of Friday Night SmackDown was shown on the big screen in the arena. After it was hinted that Rhodes would be replaced by The Rock on The Grandest Stage Of Them All. #WeWantCody has been the #1 trending topic on Twitter (X).

The Great One reportedly pushed for the match with Reigns as a way to “save” WrestleMania due to CM Punk not being able to compete because of his injury and Brock Lesnar being pulled from the card. A number of media outlets have picked up the story about the fan backlash this news has been receiving. TKO as well as WWE executives may have to rethink things because if the social media reaction and Saturday night’s house show is any indication. We may see more negative reactions towards The Rock during the build for WrestleMania, but for now, Reigns vs. Rock is going to be the main event of WrestleMania 40.
