WWE Superstar Drew McIntyre recently appeared on the Wafflin podcast, where he was asked to name his favorite wrestler of all time. Without hesitation, McIntyre gave that honor to WWE Hall of Famer Bret “The Hitman” Hart, offering heartfelt insight into why Hart has always resonated with him—both as a fan and as a professional.
“He’s huge in Europe. Like, crazy huge in Europe,” McIntyre said. “He was so captivating even as a 5, 6, 7-year-old. I couldn’t articulate why I was so drawn to him, as opposed to the larger-than-life characters like Ultimate Warrior.”
McIntyre explained that while many kids gravitated toward the more flamboyant personas of the era, it was Hart’s authenticity and precision that captured his imagination—even at a young age.
As McIntyre grew older and entered the wrestling business himself, his appreciation for Hart only deepened. What once began as childhood fandom matured into admiration for Hart’s technical mastery and storytelling ability.
“As I got older and started wrestling and I understood the business more, I got a higher appreciation for him,” McIntyre shared. “I was like, wow—he’s such a compelling storyteller with his matches.”
He likened Hart’s matches to gripping television, the kind of immersive experience that keeps viewers emotionally invested from start to finish.
“I would sit down and watch my Disney and TV shows in the same way I would sit there for his matches,” McIntyre said. “When he was on, I was so drawn in. He was such a good storyteller. It was like watching every other show I was watching, but his performance was his wrestling.”
For McIntyre, Bret Hart stands out not just as a wrestling icon, but as a master of his craft whose work transcends eras. His praise adds to the long line of Superstars who’ve cited Hart as a major influence, proving that “The Hitman’s” legacy continues to shape wrestling’s top talents even decades later.
