Pro wrestling veteran Davey Boy Smith Jr. spoke with Hannibal TV on a number of topics, including if he is interested in working with AEW.
Smith Jr. said, “Yeah, that’s a good question. A lot of people have asked stuff like that in the past. I certainly don’t have any problem or issue with doing anything with AEW. Working with MLW, I’ve worked with a lot of New Japan talent that have been coming in. I got nothing bad to say about New Japan either. I’m very thankful for the work that they gave me. Time expired, and there was a lot of stuff, a lot of middlemen and things that got confused between myself and them. But they just didn’t seem to want to really expand with me, and I was ready to move on, and time expired. But it is certainly a possibility. People have asked a lot of times about why I wasn’t on the Wembley Stadium show or why I’m not in AEW, and a lot of it is, the last year or so, I was doing stuff with MLW against. I guess from AEW’s perspective, which I totally understand, I’m not mad at all, if they bring me in for one show, I guess I’m gonna have to go over, and then it’s just a one-shot deal. Obviously, they had enough people in attendance that they didn’t necessarily need me as an addition, although I would have been a positive addition to the show. Then to MLW’s respect, it’s like okay, I go off and do this one big show for AEW, and if I did lose on it, it’d be kind of what would MLW get positive out of it? Maybe some exposure, I’m not sure, but with all due respect to them, it’s a little hard. Also, there hasn’t been any reach out as far as if I were to do that, fans would want to see a continuation or some sort of a story after that, or further additions to an AEW, not just one-time match, but tag-teaming with Lance Archer for instance, but that’s people that they have under contract, so I would be up for it if it was a one-thing deal. But I think that maybe it’s better that I’m over here in All Japan, and I think my life and quality of life and the way I’m progressing myself personally over here, I think that’s the best idea that I continue on with All Japan Pro Wrestling, and if AEW did have a tag team tournament, a yearly one, I could perhaps go there. Maybe when my All Japan deal is done, maybe I do go to AEW. I’m not sure. I’m not against that at all, in any way, shape, or form. Reuniting with Lance Archer, it certainly got over in the past, and maybe it would be a fresh breath of air for AEW if I came. But I would be up for it, but it just hasn’t happened because I haven’t been approached, it hasn’t worked out.”
