As PWMania.com previously reported, AEW terminated CM Punk’s contract following his backstage brawl with Jack Perry at the All In PPV event.
Prior to his departure, Punk had been working directly with AEW President Tony Khan on the creative aspects of Collision, according to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer. Meltzer stated, “The belief was that Punk had two contracts, one being a pro wrestling contract and another being an employee contract, was that it was a way for the company to cover full insurance, although nobody officially confirmed that or what his job title entailed.”
It’s unclear whether Punk’s contract included a non-compete clause. Meltzer pointed out that a standard one-year non-compete for a party terminated with cause is included in a WWE contract.
