Reigning AEW International and NEVER Openweight Champion “The Alpha” Konosuke Takeshita won at NJPW’s Wrestle Kingdom 19 and Wrestle Dynasty PPV by defeating Shingo Takagi to capture the NEVER Openweight Title on January 4. He defended it along with his AEW International Championship against Tomohiro Ishii the following night on January 5.
NJPW announced following Takeshita’s massive victories that he will be defending his NEVER Openweight Title against KUSHIDA at the Battle in the Valley PPV event, which is set to take place on Saturday, January 11 from the San Jose Civic in San Jose, California.
