John Bradshaw Layfield’s appearances in AAA, GCW, and TNA have fueled speculation that he is coming out of retirement.
Layfield recently shared a photo of himself in the gym, and he is clearly in the best physical shape he has been in years. At 57 years old, a full-time return to the ring appears unlikely, but a one-time match is always an option, especially now that wrestlers are making more money than ever and several wrestlers over 50 have appeared in high-profile matches in recent years.
Layfield is signed to a WWE Legends contract, according to PWInsider. So, while WWE can book him for appearances, he is free to work for other promotions as long as he does not use the JBL gimmick, which WWE owns. That is why he is referred to as John Layfield, not John Bradshaw Layfield or JBL. Also, when he appears outside of WWE, he does not dress exactly like the JBL character.
WWE sources have stated that Layfield’s appearances are acceptable, PWInsider reports.
There is no confirmation on whether Layfield will enter the ring.
