Davey Richards, the MLW National Openweight Champion, is set to become a free agent soon.
Richards signed a new multi-year contract extension with MLW in December 2021, after initially signing with the company in May 2021. However, according to a new report from PWInsider, Richards’ MLW contract is set to expire in a few months.
Unless Richards and MLW reach an agreement on a new contract, the veteran pro wrestler will be a free agent, free to sign with whoever he wants.
Richards is still the MLW National Openweight Champion, but he defended the title against the debuting Johnny Fusion (John Hennigan) on January 7 at the Blood & Thunder tapings. That match should be on TV soon.
While with MLW, Richards continued to work for independent companies such as DEFY, UWN, Beyond, PWG, and the NWA, among others. He successfully defended his MLW National Openweight Title against Colby Corino at the NWA Hard Times III pay-per-view in November.
Richards, a former PWG and ROH World Champion, has been in the ring since 2004. He’s also worked briefly with Impact Wrestling and NJPW in 2013.
