CM Punk’s return promo to kick off the AEW Collision premiere was said to be completely impromptu.
According to a new report from PWInsider, the verbiage in Punk’s Collision promo was not pre-written and then approved, as what he said was completely off the cuff. Punk reportedly had specific lines in mind for the promo, but they were not homogenized by AEW officials.
Punk was given the freedom he had always had to go out and speak to the crowd in whatever way he wanted. There was no indication that AEW officials were offended by what was said. Furthermore, many people in AEW were relieved that Punk was back and that he won his first match.
As PWMania.com previously reported, Punk may appear on Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite, but The Elite may not.
While Punk took shots at The Young Bucks and others in his return promo, The Bucks later responded playfully. The main event of Collision saw Punk return to the ring with AEW World Tag Team Champions FTR to defeat Jay White, Juice Robinson, and ROH World Television Champion Samoa Joe, as seen here.
