Since his return to the main roster for the second time, Austin Theory has been positioned as the next big WWE star.
It all started when he was the United States Champion, won the Money in the Bank briefcase, and appeared on television with Vince McMahon. When McMahon retired from the company and Triple H took over creative, he went through a character transformation.
He struggled on-screen, including a losing run and falling short when he cashed in his MITB briefcase against Seth Rollins.
Theory reclaimed the United States Championship at Survivor Series in November in a triple threat match with Bobby Lashley and Seth Rollins, and has been the champion for 221 days.
Theory won the greatest match of his career earlier this year when he defeated John Cena at WrestleMania 39.
According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, Theory’s tenure as US Champion is the longest since Dean Ambrose’s (Jon Moxley) reign 10 years ago. Ambrose held the championship for 351 days.
