ROH Women’s World Champion Athena was challenged to a title match by Thekla after they competed as a tag team at STARDOM’s New Year Dream. Thekla interfered in the International Women’s Cup match at Wrestle Dynasty, when she pulled the referee out of the ring to stop Athena from getting a pinfall victory.
Immediately following the match, Athena agreed to defend her title against Thekla. The title match was made official for STARDOM’s January 13th event from Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan.
