In response to claims that it was the greatest triple threat match in wrestling history, veteran wrestling analyst Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com gave the match a *****½ rating and stated the following:
“I would call it that, given the general consensus on the best three-way match in history was the match that inspired this, the September 11, 2005, match with A.J. Styles vs. Samoa Joe vs. Christopher Daniels. That was Ospreay’s favorite match when he was 12 years old and it was the blueprint for this match, with Takeshita in the Joe role as the heavy hitter and Ricochet and Ospreay being Styles and Daniels.”
