AEW Rampage Review – April 22, 2023
Jon Moxley vs. Christopher Daniels
Match starts off with a lock up and trades moves before Jon Moxley worked a headlock. Christopher Daniels came back and works a headlock of his own. Moxley works out of it and kicks Daniels before they traded chops.
Daniels dumps Moxley to the outside and landed a knee before getting back body drop. Moxley drops Daniels on the ring stairs then we go to picture in picture.
After the break Moxley had control and chops Daniels. Moxley worked a back rake. Daniels worked his way out and hit a crossbody from the top rope for a two count. Daniels tired to fire up but Moxley raked his eyes. Moxley went for a choke but Daniels roll up Moxley for a two count. Moxley came back with a lariat.
Moxley lands a spike piledriver for a two count. Moxley tries to lock in a Bulldog Choke but Daniels got to his feet. Moxley went for the Death Rider but Daniels countered with a back body drop. Daniels lands a flatliner off the middle rope.
Daniels then hits Angels Wings but Moxley kicks out then he tries to set up for Best Moonsault Ever but Moxley came back with a sleeper. Moxley hits a bunch of forearms and ultimately chokes Daniels out.
Winner By Submission: Jon Moxley
After the match Moxley extended his hand for a handshake and they shook hands.
We got an interview with TBS Champion Jade Cargill & Smart Mark Sterling chimed in and hyped up the Jade Cargill vs. Taya Valkyrie match on Dynamite & Sterling says if Valkyrie uses Road To Valhalla, she will be DQd on Wednesday.
Isiah Kassidy took the mic and asked the crowd for a Hell yeah! so the crowd yell back then Jeff Hardy spoke and said it was super cool to be back in this elite world. Jeff said the smartest thing he could do was retire from screwing up.
Matt Hardy took the mic and talked about The Firm Deletion. Stokely Hathaway then appeared on the big screen and said he’s tried to get a hold of Matt but Matt won’t answer & as Hathaway spoke, The Firm attacks The Hardys,Hook & Isiah Kassidy from behind. Ethan Page hits Ego’s Edge on Kassidy. The Firm tried to drag Kassidy to the back but it was broken up.
We then got a video featuring the Adam Cole & Chris Jericho angle from Dynamite.
we got an interview with Naturally Limitless. Keith Lee said he was certain he would have beaten Chris Jericho if Swerve Strickland didn’t interfere.
Julia Hart vs. Kiera Hogan
Kiera Hogan lands a series of butt moves but Julia Hart kicks out at the first pin attempt. Hart then kicks Hogan and chokes her. Hogan lands a series of back elbows and then a kick to the face. Hart came back and hit a standing moonsault for a two count. Hart then locks in Hartless and Hogan taps out.
Winner By Submission: Julia Hart
After the match Anna Jay hits the ring and brawled with Hart. The refs broke everything up.
We went backstage for an interview with Christopher Daniels. Daniels said he’s not here just for respect, he’s here for championships. He was confronted by the Blackpool Combat Club. Moxley stops Claudio Castagnoli & Wheeler Yuta from attacking Daniels but Moxley attacks Daniels.
8 Man Tag Team Match
AEW World Tag Team Champions FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler), Jeff Jarrett & Jay Lethal vs. Varsity Athletes (Tony Nese & Josh Woods) & The Trustbusters (Ari Daivari & Slim J)
Dax Harwood & Slim J starts the match off with Slim J having the upper hand. Harwood hits a leg drop and tags in Cash Wheeler & he lands a leg drop for a two count. Wilder lands a powerslam then things eventually broke down and Jarrett & Lethal strutted while FTR strutted behind them and confronted them as we go to a break.
After the break Josh Woods was working over Wheeler in the middle of the ring. Ari Daivari tags in and had control until Tony Nese tags in but Wheeler got the hot tag to Harwood & he cleans house things broke down and most all the wrestlers were in the ring.
Smart Mark Sterling hops on the apron and Harwood pulls him into the ring. Jarrett went to hit Sterling but Sterling moves and Jarrett hits Harwood then Jarrett hits Nese with The Stroke for the win.
Winners: AEW World Tag Team Champions FTR, Jeff Jarrett & Jay Lethal
After the match we got an Orange Cassidy highlight video.
After the break the break we got a pre tape Mark Henry segment setting up the AAA Mega Title Match.
AAA Mega Title Match
El Hijo Del Vikingo (c) vs. Dralistico
Dralistico jumpstarted the match but El Hijo Del Vikingo came right back and went for a dive but Dralistico moved and Vikingo hits the floor hard. Back in the ring, Dralistico hit a senton for a two count. They traded chops and elbows. Dralistico hit a snap dragon but Vikingo lands a poisonrana then Dralistico hits a Destroyer and we went to break.
After the break Dralistico hits a moonsault on Vikingo on the outside. Back in the ring Dralistico hits a Codebreaker for a two count. Vikingo came back with a chop but Dralistico fought back. They fought to the middle rope and traded blows then the exchange led to a Destroyer from Vikingo onto Dralistico on the apron.
Vikingo was on the apron and Rush pulls him off then the ref kicks LFI out of ringside. Dralistico rolls up Vikingo for a two count. Vikingo came back with a double foot stomp for a near fall. Dralistico hit a dive by taking Vikingo to the floor. Dralistico sunk in a submission and thought he won but he didn’t then Vikingo hits a double knees and the 630 Splash for the win.
Winner & Still AAA Mega Champion: El Hijo Del Vikingo (STILL CHAMPION!!!) (Recommend)
After the match Rush, Jose The Assistant & Preston Vance returned to the ring and attacked Vikingo.
