AEW Dynamite Review – November 1, 2023
Kicking off this week’s Dynamite with a video package that recaps recent events.
Renee Paquette stood backstage and welcomed viewers to Dynamite before introducing AEW World Champion MJF. Paquette brought up MJF needed 3 tag team partners for his 8 Man Tag Team match against Bullet Club Gold. MJF said he needed some help.
Adam Cole checks in on a television next to the interview set and praised MJF for becoming the longest reigning AEW World Champion. He also suggested that MJF accept Samoa Joe’s offer to help. MJF said he didn’t know if he would then said he would successfully defend the ROH World Tag Team Titles at Full Gear.
Roderick Strong calls out Adam and wheels into the frame with The Kingdom. Strong calls out MJF for leaving mid conversation and said he would never do that to Cole. He also accused MJF of being the devil mask culprit. Cole blew off Strong and ends the video call then the person wearing the Devil Mask appeared on the screen briefly.
International Title Match
Orange Cassidy (c) vs. Claudio Castagnoli
The match spilled over to ringside where Claudio Castagnoli pressed Orange Cassidy over his head and drops him on the barricade as Cassidy came up selling his right elbow.
Wheeler Yuta stood over Cassidy and taunts him then FTW Champion Hook walks out. Referee Bryce Remsburg ejected Yuta & Hook from ringside then back inside the ring Castagnoli superplexed Cassidy then rolls to the floor heading into a picture in picture break.
After the break we see footage aired from during the break of producer Pat Buck and security standing between Hook & Yuta. Hook exited the building then in the ring Cassidy went for Stundog Millionaire but Castagnoli transitions into the Giant Swing. Castagnoli locks Cassidy in the Sharpshooter then a crossface.
Cassidy escapes & hits Beach Break then Castagnoli rolls to the floor to avoid being pinned and returned at the referee’s 9 count. Cassidy threw light kicks that became faster and stiffer then performed repeated stomp kicks.
Cassidy threw a PK and then went for an Orange Punch but Castagnoli avoids it then Cassidy put Castagnoli down with a DDT for a near fall before he follows up with a hurricanrana into a pin to get the win.
Winner & Still International Champion: Orange Cassidy (STILL CHAMPION!!!!!)
After the match Jon Moxley made his entrance and enters the ring. Cassidy was down at ringside enters the ring and charges at Moxley but he puts him down and hits him with repeated punches. 2 security guards ran in but Moxley & Castagnoli quickly clears them from the ring. Moxley went back to attacking Cassidy until Castagnoli pulls him off.
MJF stood outside Kenny Omega’s locker room door and knocks on it but Chris Jericho answered the door. MJF asked if Omega was in the ring. Jericho smirked at him and closed the door.
As MJF walks away Wardlow shows up and shoved him into the wall. Wardlow said MJF took everything from him and now he would take everything from MJF when he least expects it. Wardlow released MJF then he gathered himself and walks around the corner.
Trios Champions The Acclaimed & Billy Gunn were standing around the corner. Caster held his fingers in a scissors and asked MJF to team with them but he storms away. Bowens told Caster that they hid backstage for nothing. Caster apologized as we go to a break.
After the break Jon Moxley delivered a backstage promo. He said Rey Fenix sacrificed his body just to put him down for 3 seconds. Moxley implied that he should have had the 1st shot at Fenix. Moxley said he’s not doing good and maybe Cassidy is just the wrong guy at the wrong place at the wrong time. He spoke of what he would do to Cassidy at Full Gear.
ROH 6 Man Tag Team Titles Match
The Elite (Hangman Page, Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson) (c) vs. Mogul Embassy (Brain Cage, Toa Liona & Bishop Kaun)
Hangman Page immediately starts aggressively by attacking Mogul Embassy then Page & Matt Jackson hold Bishop Kaun while Nick Jackson dives in on him then Matt tags in he ends up being run over by Toa Liona & Brian Cage then dumps him onto the ring apron.
Liona then hammers in knee strikes on Matt as they continue to isolate him in their corner before Matt finally tags in Page and he begins lighting up Gates Of Agony.
He begins to set for a Buckshot Lariat until Swerve Strickland appears & reminding Page he was at his house last week. He tags out to Nick and immediately gives chase to Strickland, leaving Nick Jackson on his own in the ring.
He takes down Mogul Embassy with a series of superkicks until the numbers outweigh him and Cage delivers a clothesline and then a suplex back into the ring.
Gates Of Agony sends Nick into a powerbomb from Cage then delivers a big knee strike before Gates Of Agony slams him down to get the win.
Winners & New 6 Man Tag Team Champions: Mogul Embassy (NEW CHAMPIONS!!!!)
After the match there was a split screen shot that showed security pulling apart Page & Strickland while Mogul Embassy celebrated. They switched to a full screen shot of the pull apart.
They went back to a full screen shot of Matt Jackson throwing a tantrum. Matt knocks over the timekeepers table then grabs a chair and battered one of the table legs with it before slamming it against 2 ring posts while Nick watches from the ring as we go to a break.
After the break MJF was shown preparing to knock on Samoa Joe’s door but he stops and walks to the next door which had Darby Allin’s name on it. MJF took the plastic name sign and wrote emo b*tch on it and then said loser when MJF turned around The Acclaimed & Gunn were standing there. Caster held an MJF Pick Us sign and points at it. MJF walks away. Dammit Max Bowens said to Caster.
Tony Schiavone stood inside the ring and introduced Adam Copeland & he made his entrance. Copeland put over Schiavone for all the hats he wears backstage. Copeland recalled Sting getting in his face. Copeland said that while people may have been confused by Sting saying that they went way back he said they do. He said they had the same injuries and used each other as a sounding board. Copeland and also praised Darby Allin. He said people want to know if he will team with Sting & Allin at Full Gear.
TNT Champion Christian Cage’s entrance theme interrupted and he walks onto the stage with Luchasaurus & Nick Wayne. Cage said he wanted to paint a picture for Copeland before he makes his decision. Cage claimed he will retire Sting at Full Gear then spoke about Allin’s gimp arm.
Cage said he also didn’t need to remind everyone about Copeland’s neck problems. Cage said he’d hate to see Copeland’s fairytale turn into a nightmare. Cage starts walking to the ring with his crew and told Copeland to back down or he would snap his neck and leave him in a wheelchair. Cage told Luchasaurus & Wayne to give Copeland a preview.
Luchasaurus & Wayne rushed the ring and were fought off by Copeland. Copeland caught Cage entering the ring but Luchasaurus hits Copeland’s neck from behind. Wayne follows up with Wayne’s World that put Copeland down then Wayne slid Cage chairs for a Conchairto.
Sting made his entrance and disposed of Wayne once he charged at him on the ramp. Darby Allin ran past String and tackled Cage. Copeland clears Luchasaurus from the ring and then went to the corner and watches while Cage put the boots to Allin when Cage turned around Copeland spears him.
Copeland picks up the mic and said that Cage wants to snap his neck but he’s going to beat his ass. It is on you little son of a b*tch Copeland said. Copeland told Sting & Allin that if they wanted a partner at Full Gear he was their man.
Nigel McGuinness stood backstage with Tony Khan and noted that Khan had a huge announcement. Khan spoke about the success they had at Wembley Stadium.
Khan said Christmas trees are going up around the world. He said he can’t think of a better gift to give the fans than a ticket to All In on August 25th, 2024. Khan said tickets go on sale on December 1st. He said that fans don’t have to wait they can sign up for the pre sale and had McGuinness deliver the specifics.
Tag Team Match
Golden Jets (Chris Jericho & Kenny Omega) vs. Angelo Parker & Matt Menard
Angelo Parker & Matt Menard attacks Golden Jets before they took control heading into a PIP break.
After the break Menard passed Chris Jericho’s baseball bat Floyd to Parker & as Parker swung the bat at Jericho he ducks it then drops Parker with Judas Effect to get the win.
Winners: Golden Jets
After the match The Don Callis Family walks onto the entrance ramp. He said Omega & Jericho are like cockroaches in that they were hard to get rid of. Callis challenges Omega & Jericho to face his family in a Street Fight in 2 weeks on Dynamite in Ontario, California.
Jericho mocks Callis for calling them dummies then hands the mic to Omega & they accepted the challenge. Omega said they weren’t going to accept the fight alone. Omega announced that Kota Ibushi would be on their team. Callis said they were still a man short. Jericho recalls saying that he had a friend who was bigger than Hobbs. Callis said no one is bigger than Hobbs. Jericho said Hobbs isn’t a giant.
Paul Wight made his entrance as Kyle Fletcher ran to the stage but gets drop with a punch by Wight.
After the break Renee Paquette interviewed Omega & Jericho in the locker room while Young Bucks were in the background. Jericho spoke about the Street Fight until Matt interrupted them. Matt asked what the point of putting The Elite back together was and asked Omega if the forgot about what this prick did their father all those years ago.
Jericho told Young Bucks not to take out their frustration over losing the ROH 6 Man Tag Team Titles on him. Omega said Jericho was with them in their fight against The Don Callis Family. Matt told Omega that Jericho & Callis are cut from the same cloth. Matt told them to enjoy the locker room and clean it up once they were finished.
Women’s Title Match
Hikaru Shida (c) vs. Willow Nightingale
Willow Nightingale offers a handshake which Hikaru Shida accepted then Shida sends Nightingale to the floor and then dove from the middle rope and hit her with a crossbody block before a PIP break.
After the break Nightingale puts Shida down with a lariat but Shida actually hooks her into a pin and got a couple of two counts. Shida follows up with a knee strike for a near fall before Shida hits Kitana to put Nightingale away.
Winner & Still Women’s Champion: Hikaru Shida (STILL CHAMPION!!!!)
After the match Toni Storm made her entrance and was accompanied by her butler Luther. Shida exits the ring and knocks a pillow out of Luther’s hand. Storm was posing on seated on the stage when Shida ran up and hit her with a knee strike. Shida rips Storm’s robe off and chases her to the back.
The lights went out when they turned on Julia Hart was standing in the ring behind Nightingale & she turns around and was offered a handshake. Skye Blue ran out and went face 2 face with Hart & she nodded at her. Blue turns around and stared at Nightingale but they turned around again and sprayed blue mist at Hart. Blue smirked while Hart seethed at ringside.
Backstage The Acclaimed & Gunn made 1 more pitch to MJF. Max Caster said they would team with him if he scissored them and wore what was in a trash bag that he handed to him. MJF looks inside the bag and said no then told them to leave.
When MJF turned around he saw Jeff Jarrett, Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt, Satnam Singh & Karen Jarrett standing in front of him & they indicated that they were willing to team with MJF as he looked back at the trash bag that Caster gave him.
Renee Paquette stood backstage and was interrupted by The Kingdom & Strong. Strong calls Adam Cole and asked if he could believe that MJF didn’t ask them to be his partners then Cole told Strong to shut the hell up.
8 Man Tag Team Match
Trios Champions The Acclaimed (Anthony Bowens & Max Caster) & Billy Gunn vs. AEW World Champion MJF vs. Bullet Club Gold (Juice Robinson, Austin Gunn, Coleton Gunn & Jay White)
Billy Gunn got the better of Austin Gunn before they cut to an picture in picture break.
After the break MJF acted uncomfortable while watching The Acclaimed & Billy hitting Scissor Me Timbers then MJF came in for the scissoring spot he agreed to but they were pulled to the floor.
Bullet Club Gold put the boots to Max Caster on the floor then isolated him back inside the ring.
Caster was tossed back to the floor as Bowens & Gunn but the referee cuts them off and missed Robinson repeatedly kicking Caster before tossing him back inside the ring.
Juice Robinson & Colten Gunn tossed Bowens over the barricade and then ran Billy into the ring post. Jay White mocks the scissoring while roughing up Caster then eventually made the hot tag. White stood at ringside while MJF works over The Gunns & Robinson.
White wanted a sneak attack but MJF saw him coming then chased him around and back inside the ring. MJF was cut off by Austin.
The Gunns went for 3:10 To Yuma but MJF countered into a DDT. MJF hit the Kangaroo Kick on Robinson & Austin.
MJF kips up and plays to the camera then MJF turns around and White hits him with Blade Runner to score the win.
Winners: Bullet Club Gold
After the match White was setting up to hit MJF with the AEW World Title but The Acclaimed & Billy pulls Robinson & The Gunns to the floor.
White waited for MJF to stand up and tried to hit him with the AEW World Title but Caster returns shoved MJF out of the way and took the AEW World Title shot instead. MJF chased White out of the ring and then Bullet Club Gold headed to the stage. MJF stood on the ropes and watched Bullet Club Gold then joins Bowens & Gunn in checking on Caster.
Caster held up his scissors fingers. MJF shoved his hand away so Billy jawed at MJF then all 4 backed to separate corners and then did the scissoring routine then a kneeling Caster hugs MJF and patted his backside until MJF shoved him aside. MJF went to the ropes and joins The Acclaimed & Billy to celebrated with the fans to close Dynamite.
