AEW Dynamite Review – (02/15/2023)
8 Man Tag Team Match
All Atlantic Champion Orange Cassidy, The Acclaimed & Billy Gunn vs. Jeff Jarrett, Jay Lethal, Satnam Singh & Sonjay Dutt
Anthony Bowens & Jay Lethal start the match off as Jeff Jarrett & Max Caster go at it then Caster hits a pair of arm drags and a dropkick. Jarrett mounted a comeback before tagging in Satnam Singh. Caster teases tagging in Billy Gunn but Orange Cassidy tags himself in instead.
After Singh measures Cassidy’s height, he tags in Sonjay Dutt. They tease going at it, before Gunn & Jarrett tag in. AEW World Tag Team Champions The Gunns head to the ramp and tease scissoring before doing the ‘suck it’ chop. Jarrett does the strut as Lethal & Singh do the same on the apron.
Jarrett’s team plays the next couple of minutes just playing with the crowd while working on Billy Gunn. Singh tags in and takes every out before Gunn takes him down with the Famouser as Dutt is distracting Aubrey Edwards, Jarrett uses the Golden Globe. Dutt tries to use the pencil but Cassidy takes him out with the Orange Punch.
The Acclaimed try going for Scissor Me Timbers but Lethal breaks it up. Gunn takes out Lethal before teasing Scissor Me Timbers himself. Jarrett breaks it up, and gets taken out with an Orange Punch before Cassidy does his Orange kicks then teases Scissor Me Timbers himself. Lethal takes him out, before Cassidy goes spilling to the outside with the headscissors on him. Bowens comes in and they finally hit Scissor Me Timbers on Dutt to get the win for his team.
Winners: All Atlantic Champion Orange Cassidy, The Acclaimed & Billy Gunn
We see footage from last week of a bloody Bryan Danielson after his match with Rush & he says MJF is shaking in his boots and what he did was the act of a scared and desperate man who knows that the boogeyman is coming to take his AEW World Title.
Texas Tornado Tag Team Match
Blackpool Combat Club vs. La Faccion Ingobnrable
As Blackpool Combat Club are making their entrance, they get attacked in the crowd by Los Faccion Ingobnrable before the bell can ring and continue to fight as they head to picture in picture.
When we come back from picture in picture they are still battling on the outside as Moxley has Rush in the Figure 4 and Vance tosses Claudio Castagnoli into the barricade before tossing Moxley back inside as the match officially starts.
Rush joins in as they start double teaming Moxley then they work on Moxley with a spinebuster and dropkick, before taunting the crowd. Castagnoli joins in to even the odds and takes out Vance with a springboard uppercut before teasing going for the Giant Swing, but Vance breaks out of it.
Moxley tosses some chairs inside before catapulting Rush into the barricade on the outside. Blackpool Combat Club mount the chair in the corner, before whipping Vance into it before Moxley takes out Rush on the outside with a tope suicida.
Moxley starts biting Vance’s face before Vance spears Moxley through the ropes, off the apron onto Castagnoli & Rush. LFI start attacking Castagnoli’s shoulder with chairs on top of the ringside table, before flipping it over and covering it with chairs as we head to another picture in picture.
We come back from another picture in picture Moxley & Rush are going at it in the middle of the ring with chops and strikes. Vance comes in and takes out Moxley with a chain, but only gets a two count. Vance continues punching him with the chain as Page is still shown watching on. Castagnoli is finally able to get out of the rubble and takes the chain, knocking Vance out with it, busting him open.
Castagnoli follows with the Giant Swing before going for the cover which Rush breaks up at two. Vance takes down the bloody Moxley with a discuss lariat, but only gets a two. Both teams going at it, hitting suplexes before it’s down to Rush & Castagnoli in a faceoff.
Jose The Assistant comes in with a chair and takes out Castagnoli with it, before Wheeler Yuta runs out and takes Jose to the back. Rush hits an exploder suplex to Castagnoli in the corner, and teases going for the Bull’s Horns, but Castagnoli stops him with a spear that Vance breaks up the count.
Vance tries to choke Moxley out with the chain, but he reverses it, wraps it around Vance’s neck and starts choking him out, before putting on the Juji Gatame as the referee stops the match.
Winners By Referee Stoppage: Blackpool Combat Club
We cut to the back where Kip Sabian, The Butcher & The Blade are attacking Hangman Page, before officials and the Dark Order run in to break it up as commentary questions what that means for the match later tonight.
We head to earlier today where Jim Ross is having a sit down with Wardlow and asks about private conversations Wardlow might have had with Samoa Joe when they were partners and asks what’s next for him. Wardlow mentioned sharing personal stories then goes into stories with his father where he wasn’t in his life from the age of 8 until he was a young adult. As he got older, he reentered his life but then revealed he had stage 4 cancer and the next time he saw him, he was sitting in a hospital bed. He was able to see him wrestle in his first indie show, as Wardlow promised to be a better man and he would make it, being the last thing he could say to him before getting the call that he passed. After seeing cancer take it from him, he decided to grow his hair and beard out for him, and Joe knew that and took it from him. The connection with his father was taken from him before he talks into the camera and says even though Joe survived every company and monster this business has had to offer, he will not survive Wardlow.
Mark Briscoe vs. Josh Woods
Josh Woods goes to take down Mark Briscoe before Briscoe backs him into the ropes to break it up. Briscoe ducks and shoulder blocks Woods, taking him to the outside where Briscoe runs the ropes, just to be tripped and taken to the outside by Tony Nese & Ari Daivari.
Lucha Bros run out and fight Nese & Daivari to the back. Briscoe & Woods fight on the apron, where Woods takes Briscoe to the floor with a corkscrew suplex as we head to picture in picture.
When we come back, Briscoe scares Mark Sterling off the apron as Woods takes advantage with a jawbreaker and exploder suplex. Briscoe takes Woods to the outside and sets up the chair in the ring to do his cannonball dive to Woods on the outside. Briscoe sets up Woods on the rope and hits a Razor’s Edge for a two count.
Briscoe calls for the Jay Driller, but Woods counters it and rolls through and hits Pure Chaos for a two count. They go back and forth before Briscoe hits an enziguri and a rolling Death Valley Driver. Briscoe heads to the top and hits the Froggy Bow for the win.
Winner: Mark Briscoe
After the match Mark looks into the camera and gives some words for Jay and says he’s going to carry on in his honor.
We went to an interview with Renee Paquette sitting down with Adam Cole and she asked him how he’s been. Cole says he’s been great and can’t be happier to be on the road with AEW. Cole is a little discouraged not being in the ring but he’s celebrating little victories like his eye looking in the right direction and not twitching. The fact he can go a day without throwing up and feeling nauseous. Cole said he looks at the roster and says it’s never been better and it’s absolutely stacked, and when he comes back he has to be prepared. He has a couple ideas on who he’ll be stepping into the ring with but won’t give any names, but says it’ll be good for him and for AEW.
Here come the AEW World Champion MJF comes out to the ring for his contractually obligated appearance here in Laredo, Texas before we head to commercials.
When we come back from the break he’s standing in the ring as the crowd is booing away and chanting, as MJF says he doesn’t speak Spanish. MJF says these people love Bryan Danielson and it pisses him off, because these schmucks used to be devil worshippers and cheer for him. MJF calls them disgusting fickle little monsters so he turned his back on them before they could turn their back on him.
MJF continues calling himself the devil as the crowd chants ‘shut the f*ck up’. MJF says Danielson isn’t honest about himself because in real life he is a worthless sack of trash. MJF says that’s not the only reason he hates him, he hates him because he has these people convinced that he’s better than him and that couldn’t be further from the truth. MJF asks why they think he’s the best in the world and questions if it is because of his entertainment, wrestling moves and 5 star bangers.
MJF says they only get in this business to be World Champion, and last time he checked and the only way you know you’re the best in the world is if you’re the man that’s holding the AEW World Title and that’s something Danielson has never been able to accomplish.
MJF knows at Revolution, Danielson will give the performance of a lifetime and use every trick he learned in Japan, Mexico, UK & Canada and put him through the hardest match of his life, but after that clock strikes 0, MJF will be victorious, because Danielson isn’t the best wrestler in the world, MJF is. And at Revolution, he will prove it, he goes for his catchphrase but tells the crowd to shut their mouth and not chant along.
MJF then introduces Christopher Daniels, a man Danielson has looked up to. MJF tells Daniels to tell people the truth about Danielson. Daniels reveals that MJF paid him alot of money to talk trash about Danielson and in the past he would take this money, but that’s not the man he is today and says the truth is Bryan Danielson is set to knock MJF’s dick in the dirt and tosses the money back to MJF.
Daniels brings up the 1st time he was in the ring with Danielson and he hit him so hard he thought he would die in the middle of the ring and that’s when he knew Danielson would be great. He saw Danielson win the King Of The Indies tournament in APW and that inspired the creation of Ring Of Honor and if there wasn’t a Ring Of Honor, there might not be an AEW and definitely wouldn’t be an MJF.
Daniels says everything Danielson wanted to do, he was a sponge and wanted to learn everything he could, one new thing every match he ever had and he watched him do it over and over again until he became a World Champion. And that’s why MJF hates him, because Danielson is exactly what MJF wishes he could be; the best wrestler in the world today.
Daniels calls MJF a fraud and continues, before MJF knocks the mic out of his hand and starts pushing him around. They continue trash talking to each other, before Daniels smacks MJF. MJF comes back by kicking Daniels down low and putting on the Salt Of The Earth. Danielson runs out and chases MJF away.
We go to a video package from AEW World Tag Team Champions The Gunns who talk about all the doubts people had on them and say they’ve had little experience and didn’t have to go to the indies to win the AEW World Tag Team Titles. And at Revolution, they will welcome us to the Gunn Show.
Brain Cage vs. Jack Perry
Jack Perry takes Brian Cage into the corner with a dropkick but Cage drives him into the other corner. Perry knocks Cage to the outside with a dropkick and hits him with a pair of topes but Cage catches him on his 3rd dive attempt and drops him onto the apron as we go to picture in picture.
After the PIP Cage is in control with a slingshot/powerbomb type move for a two count. Cage hits a buckle bomb and the F5 for a another two count. Perry takes control and hits a Death Valley Driver, but Cage kicks out at 1. Perry follows with a crucifix bomb then a elbow to the back of the head, and rolls up Cage to score the win.
Winner: Jack Perry
After the match as Perry is heading to the back, we get the return of Christian Cage who’s still wearing a sling. As Perry goes to rush to him, Cage sprays him with something that the commentary thinks is mace. Cage takes off the sling and arm brace, tells Perry he isn’t done with him and hits him with the Killswitch on the stage.
Backstage Renee Paquette says The Gunns will defend the AEW World Tag Team Titles at Revolution in a Triple Threat Match. The competitors will be determined next week in a traditional battle royal with a Casino Battle Royal the following week. The Acclaimed walk in and says the Triple Threat will turn into a Fatal 4 Way and it doesn’t matter if they fly people in and open the Forbidden Door for the other teams, they will win the AEW World Tag Team Titles regardless.
We go to Trios Champions The Elite who hype up NBA All Star Weekend and ask if they are choosing Team Giannis or Team LeBron. Top Flight & AR Fox walk in and ask to run it back this Friday on Rampage. They are about to agree, but Don Callis denies it. Dante Martin makes a ball joke, as Kenny Omega gets p*ssed off and agrees to the match as Matt Jackson throws a basketball to Brandon Cutler’s nuts.
Hangman Page vs. Kip Sabian
Sabian takes control right away and starts taunting Page with a cowboy dance. Page comes back with a fallaway slam and tries to knock Sabian off the apron, but he is able to dodge him before taking him out with a baseball dropkick and a kick off the apron. Sabian stays in control with a springboard moonsault to the outside as we head to picture in picture.
When we come back, they are fighting on the outside, before Page tosses Sabian back inside for a sit out powerbomb, getting a two count. They go back & forth before Page hits a clothesline and the Dead Eye to put away Sabian.
Winner: Hangman Page
After the match Blackpool Combat Club heads to the ring to confront him. Jon Moxley says he knows Page thinks they have unfinished business, but they don’t as a couple weeks ago Page got pinned. Moxley says he has some respect for him, but 0 fear and knows what he’s going to do before he’s going to do it, and there is no chance in hell that he will ever beat him again and tells him to let it go. Page grabs the mic and says he’s not happy with their last match and doesn’t think Moxley is either as it ending in a roll up and doesn’t think that’s how it ends and suggests a match at Revolution with one man left standing. Moxley says Page doesn’t have any friends to talk him out of his decision as Dark Order’s music plays & they walk out as Page tells them to stay out of it. Evil Uno says he’s not afraid of Moxley and pie faces him, as they all confront each other. Moxley ignores Uno and suggests a Texas Death Match at Revolution.
We go to the Jericho Appreciation Society as Chris Jericho says another match with Ricky Starks isn’t happening as he isn’t on his level. Daniel Garcia says this Friday on Rampage he will have a match with Starks and call him absolutely annoying and delusional as Jake Hager says he likes this hat. Garcia says he will prove to everybody that Starks is an absolute fraud.
Tony Schiavone is backstage with The Firm’s Ethan Page, Matt Hardy, Isaiah Kassidy & Stokely Hathaway as Hathaway says FTW Champion Hook broke his arm last week, while he’s wearing a cast and says Hook should be fired and he spent his weekend on conference calls with Angela Davis, Al Sharpton & Jesse Jackson. Hathaway calls himself a freak of nature, as Page asks where Hathaway was last week at The Firm’s celebration bash. Schiavone says Hook has been suspended pending investigation.
Toni Storm & Saraya make their way to the ring, they attack a ‘fan’ in the crowd who was holding a DMD sign teasing spray painting her, before Ruby Soho comes out to stop them.
Triple Threat Match
Toni Storm vs. Ruby Soho vs. Britt Baker
Britt Baker & Toni Storm go at it, as Storm holds Baker for Soho to attack her but she attacks Storm instead. Baker gets taken to the outside where Storm takes her out with a hip attack, before Soho takes Storm to the outside with a Saito Suplex. Soho tries to decide which way to dive to, before Storm & Baker head back inside, as they head to picture in picture.
After the break Saraya holds Baker’s boot as Soho hits her with a suplex, before Storm tries a hip attack, just for Soho to trip her up. Baker comes back with a double underhook suplex, but Storm breaks up the pin. Storm hits Soho with a German suplex, as Baker rolls up Storm right away for a two count.
Baker comes back with a neckbreaker on Storm for another two. Storm puts Soho in a Texas Cloverleaf, as Baker puts the Lockjaw on Soho as well. Saraya comes in and breaks up the count, as Storm takes out Jamie Hayter on the outside with a torando DDT.
Saraya goes after Baker, and grabs the spray paint, spraying Storm’s behind with it, as she hits the hip attack on Baker. Soho tosses Storm to the outside and rolls up Baker to get the win.
Winner: Ruby Soho
After the match Saraya & Hayter come in and both corner Soho asking her to choose sides, leaving her to make a choice.
