On Wednesday’s episode of Dynamite, AEW President Tony Khan made an important announcement. The promotion will make its UK debut on August 27 with their All In show at Wembley Stadium.
The London stadium can accommodate up to 90,000 fans, so this is a significant move by the promotion. The last time a wrestling event was held there was WWE SummerSlam in 1992, which drew 80,000 fans at the old stadium.
It is important to note that AEW is popular in the UK, where they frequently draw more television viewers than WWE. They will still require a significant main event to generate more interest.
The promotion has gotten off to a great start with 25,000 people signing up for the show’s pre-sale registration, according to Dave Meltzer’s report in the most recent Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
Meltzer stated, “Tickets go on sale to the public on 5/5, but they are doing a pre-register for early access with a code, and there will be a pre-sale on 5/2. That will largely give a strong clue as to how successful the show will end up being. There were reports of 25,000 sign-ups the first day.”
Although it hasn’t been confirmed, it is widely believed that this will be a pay-per-view event as operating a stadium house show is illogical. Nevertheless, it will occur a week prior to the annually scheduled All Out pay-per-view event over Labor Day Weekend. It’s unclear if they’ll hold two PPV events a week apart, push back All Out, or skip this year’s All Out show.
