Fans have started buzzing about a potential head-to-head showdown between AEW and WWE following Peacock’s schedule update, which revealed two upcoming Saturday Night’s Main Event specials. The dates listed are May 24 and July 12, 2025.
The May 24 special falls just one week before Memorial Day weekend, a traditional spot for AEW’s Double or Nothing pay-per-view. Meanwhile, the July 12 special coincides with AEW’s All In at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. The All In event is notable as AEW’s first pay-per-view in an American baseball stadium.
Historically, AEW has scheduled its pay-per-views on Sundays outside of the NFL season, shifting to Saturdays during the season. While AEW has not officially announced plans for Double or Nothing 2025, Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the event is unlikely to conflict with WWE’s May 24 special.
“We were able to confirm that AEW was not planning a PPV that day, and was likely planning one the next day. However, historically, Double or Nothing most years was on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend.”
He also noted that AEW has been more cautious about revealing event dates far in advance after WWE scheduled a house show on December 28, 2024, in Orlando—coinciding with AEW’s Worlds End pay-per-view on the same night.
As Double or Nothing approaches, fans will be watching closely to see how AEW and WWE navigate these key dates and whether future programming leads to direct competition.
