AEW Collision Review – September 23, 2023

TNT Title Triple Threat Match
Luchasaurus (c) vs. Christian Cage vs. Darby Allin

Darby Allin threw powder in the face of Luchasaurus and then hits a suicide dive on Christian Cage. Allin got Cage back in the ring and ended up getting a two count.

Allin performed a suicide dive on Luchasaurus when Allin returned to the ring Cage got the better of him and sent him back to the floor then Luchasaurus ran Allin into the barricade.

Allin was seated on a chair in the middle of the ring. Luchasaurus suplexes Allin as he held onto the chair then Luchasaurus was going to go for the cover but Cage talks him out of it and made the cover instead.

Cage & Luchasaurus took Allin to ringside and ran him over the top of the ring steps. Cage posed on the steps heading into a picture in picture break.

After the break Allin puts Cage down with a Scorpion Death Drop while Luchasaurus was at ringside. Allin went up top for Coffin Drop but Luchasaurus pulled Cage to the floor. Allin dove onto Cage & Luchasaurus.

Allin got Luchasaurus back in the ring and then dove off the top rope at him. Luchasaurus caught him by the throat, but Allin escaped. Allin clears Cage from the ring and then charged Luchasaurus but he caught him by the throat again and chokeslams him.

Luchasaurus picks the TNT Title off the mat and looked at it. Cage orders him to give it back which he reluctantly did. Allin hits Cage & Luchasaurus and then slams the TNT Title over Luchasaurus’s head and covers him for a near fall.

Allin caught Luchasaurus with a PK then follows up with Coffin Drop as Cage threw Allin to ringside and then stole the win.

Winner & New TNT Champion: Christian Cage (NEW CHAMPION!!!!!)

After the match Cage kisses the TNT Title and then the referee raised his arm. Luchasaurus got to his feet and then Cage hugs him. Cage celebrated again and had Luchasaurus raise his arm. Cage went to the ropes and then Luchasaurus puts Cage on his shoulders while Cage held up the TNT Title.

Alex Marvez interviewed The Don Callis Family after footage was shown of Kenny Omega & Chris Jericho joining forces. Callis spoke about how they also dropped Kota Ibushi’s name. Callis said Ibushi is a weakness for Omega due to their bond. Callis said he has another family member who beat Omega & Jericho within 2 months. Callis said Takeshita & Guevara would team with Will Ospreay to face Golden Lovers & Jericho at WrestleDream.

Backstage Tony Schiavone interviews new TNT Champion Christian Cage & he was accompanied by Luchasaurus. Cage dedicated his victory to Nick Wayne’s mom and his late father Buddy. Cage said he’s finished with Darby Allin and calls for his next challenger. Schiavone said Tony Khan has booked Cage vs. Allin in a 2 Out Of 3 Falls match for WrestleDream. Cage storms off the set.

Tag Team Match
FTW Champion Hook & Rob Van Dam vs. Angelo Parker & Matt Menard

Hook & Rob Van Dam was dominant heading into the PIP break.

After the match Anna Jay distracted the referee while Jake Hager swung a chair that RVD ducked & kicks the chair at Hager’s face.

Hook puts Angelo Parker in Redrum then RVD hits 5 Star Frog Splash on Matt Menard for the win.

Winners: FTW Champion Hook & Rob Van Dam

Footage aired of Eddie Kingston beating Claudio Castagnoli to win the ROH World Title. Kingston said he would defend the ROH World & NJPW Strong Openweight Titles against Pure Champion Katsuyori Shibata at WrestleDream.

A Dark Order video aired & they said the world is out of control. Evil Uno asked where you will go when it’s all done. They said you need structure, rules & order. They said you need the Dark Order because they are good.

The Kingdom stood backstage & Matt Taven said they would show Best Friends what people who don’t celebrate neck health month deserve. Mike Bennett said they would find out how strong Best Friends are.

Julia Hart vs. Kiera Hogan

Julia Hart hits an standing moonsault and got a two count then Kira Hogan got a little offense in before Hart locks Hogan in Hartless to get the submission win.

Winner By Submission: Julia Hart

After the match Hart reapplied Hartless then Skye Blue headed to the ring but Brody King blocks Blue from getting to Hart. King stepped aside and then Hart sprayed mist into the eyes of Blue. King took the mic and said this would not end until they get to TBS Champion Kris Statlander. King calls for Statlander to put her TBS Title on the line at WrestleDream or said the body count would continue to rise. Hart took the mic and told Statlander that the house always wins.

A Righteous video aired & they said they are out to expose Better Then You Bay Bay.

Jay White vs. Andrade El Idolo

Jay White knocks Andrade El Idolo off the apron then The Gunns & Juice Robinson surrounded El Idolo and taunted him heading into a PIP break.

After the break El Idolo hits a moonsault off the top rope onto Bullet Club Gold.

Back in the ring El Idolo went for a top rope moonsault on White but lands on his feet when White moved and then hit him with a standing moonsault for a two count.

Both men traded near falls including White kicking out after taking a back elbow strike. El Idolo hits double knees in the corner then follows up with a hammerlock DDT.

El Idolo had the pin but Robinson put White’s foot on the bottom rope without the referee seeing him. El Idolo locks in Figure 8. The Gunns distracted the referee while Robinson interfered and hits El Idolo with a clipboard before White hits Blade Runner to get the win.

Winner: Jay White

We get footage of Mike Santana & Ortiz confrontation from Rampage.

A video package aired with Ortiz talking about how Santana walked out on him after 14 years. Santana said no crutch and no crew is how he likes it. Ortiz said that Santana is a keyboard warrior who ran away from his problems. Ortiz said Santana wouldn’t be able to run much longer.

Shane Taylor Promotions was backstage & Taylor recalled starting the Pretty Boy Killers tag team in ROH with Keith Lee. Taylor said Lee went to work for the other billionaire while he stayed in ROH and became a legend. Taylor said he would put Lee in the ground if it meant taking care of his family. Taylor said Lee would face Lee Moriarty 1st and billed Moriarty as the best technical wrestler in the world.

AEW World Tag Team Titles Match
FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler) (c) vs. The Workhorsemen (JD Drake & Anthony Henry)

Anthony Henry hits a top rope double stomp on Dax Harwood  then Henry follows up by diving onto Cash Wheeler on the floor then in the ring JD Drake hits a top rope moonsault on Harwood for a near fall.

Wheeler dumps Henry on the apron at ringside then back in the ring Drake leapt off the top rope into a powerbomb from Harwood then rolls him over into the Sharpshooter for the submission win.

Winners By Submission & Still AEW World Tag Team Champions: FTR (STILL CHAMPIONS!!!!!)

After the match Aussie Open stood up and applauded FTR then they entered the ring. Mark Davis told FTR they are in for the fight of their lives. Kyle Fletcher said they may not have lived up to the hype yet, but that’s why they wanted AEW World Tag Team Title match.

Harwood said Aussie Open were sacrificial lambs for MJF and his best friend as well as Chris Jericho and his best friend. Harwood begs them for the fight of their lives. He told them to not bother showing up if they didn’t and then tossed the mic at Fletcher before FTR made their exit.

Backstage Lexy Nair spoke with CJ Perry and said fans were wondering why now. Perry said her husband lost his way. Miro shows up and said Perry is his temptation while her temptation are the lights, the camera and the fame. Perry said they both need to do what they have to do. She said they could take different paths. She just asked that he not lay a hand on any of her future clients or people she will manage. Miro walks away without responding.

Texas Death Match
Ricky Starks vs. Bryan Danielson

Ricky Starks tackles Bryan Danielson and works him over with punches to start the match before they fought into the crowd and Danielson fired back with a series of kicks. Starks returns to ringside.

Danielson follows and was hit by Starks then he tossed him over the barricade. Starks returns to the ring and performed a springboard dive onto Danielson and they both fell into the front row heading into a break.

After the break Starks slams Danielson’s head on the broadcast table before Starks wraps Danielson’s leg around the ring post and hit him with a chair shot.

Starks brought the chair inside the ring with him and chokes Danielson with it and then jabbed it into his gut. Starks went up top but Danielson got the chair and battered Starks with it several times. Starks fought back and bit Danielson’s forehead.

Danielson suplexes Starks from the ropes and then pulled himself up from the tree of woe position. Danielson missile dropkicked Starks. Danielson had a flurry of offense that Starks cut off by hit him with a chair heading into another PIP break.

After the 2nd break Danielson battled back coming out of the break but Starks put him down with a shoulder block then Starks wraps a steel chain around the neck of Danielson and choked him with it. Starks released the chain and then Aubrey Edwards started her count. Danielson got back to his feet at 9.

Starks went back to choking Danielson. Starks had Danielson on his back and choked him until Danielson flipped over him. Danielson applied the LeBell Lock. The broadcast team questioned if Starks tapped and then noted that it didn’t matter because there were no taps allowed.

Danielson choked Starks with the chain as Edwards started her count while Starks was being choked but Starks fired up and escaped. Danielson threw a series of punches at Starks then both men traded punches while on their knees and then fell back to the mat.

Starks got to his feet first and then swung and missed with a chair that Danielson ducked then Danielson hits Starks with a running knee strike that drove the chair into his face. Danielson grabs Starks and kicks him repeatedly as Starks spat at Danielson then he stomped him more.

Danielson lowers his kneepad then wraps the chain around his knee. Danielson points at Starks then hits him with the Busaiku Knee with the chain wrap around his knee as Edwards counted to 10 while Starks was down to give Danielson the win.

Winner: Bryan Danielson

After the match Big Bill came out and checks on Starks while Wheeler Yuta came out and checks on Danielson. Starks got up first and moves toward Danielson which led to Yuta shoving him to close out this week’s Collision.
