During the AEW Revolution 2025 media call, AEW CEO Tony Khan discussed several topics, including how he has taken more control of the company’s creative this year.
Khan said, “I have really pushed back on a lot of stuff in recent months, where a large percentage of what you’re seeing is being handed in by me. That is the exact same thing that I did five years ago and it worked really, really damn well. And I realized that’s probably what I should do going into this Revolution.”
On learning that he needs to push back more:
“Most of AEW’s about collaboration and that’s really one of the things that makes AEW stand out. There’s been times where I’ve been too collaborative and just need to push back. And I think in this past couple months, you saw that.”
On the company’s latest run of shows:
“I think we’re really very happy with the shows right now, I think the quality of show has been tremendous and we helped build a lot of excitement around the original Revolution by just doing great shows.”
On the notion of taking a big swing in the wake of John Cena’s heel turn:
“We do take big swings and do exciting things on the shows and we have big developments, big matches, big moments, and I wanna keep doing that, but I don’t want to change anything we’re doing just because another wrestling promotion has changed what they’re doing.”
On why the Face of the Revolution Ladder Match hasn’t taken place seen since 2023:
“There are so many great matches around the company right now, and we’ve had some great ladder matches, and it’s really about placing matches at the right time. I don’t want to do too many ladder matches, or too many of the same kind of stipulation matches and become repetitive. You will see great ladder matches in AEW, I think we’ve had some real classics over the years, and the Face of the Revolution ladder match we’ve had some excellent matches. But it’s about putting the right people in the right situations at the right times.”
