All Elite Wrestling commentator Tony Schiavone recently discussed several professional wrestling topics on his podcast, “What Happened When,” including what if Paul Orndorff left WWE in 1985 and went to Jim Crockett Promotions.
Schiavone said, “In the late ’70s, Orndorff was in the Crocketts. This is Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling. He and Jimmy Snuka were a tag team, and they were the World Tag Team Champions. They had a long-running feud with Baron Von Raschke and Greg Valentine, and they were a great babyface tag team. I remember it happening, I don’t know how long their run was in Crockett. I’m not sure. So he left as a babyface, and coming back, I think with the robe, with the look, I think he would have been a great Horseman, don’t you? He would have fit right into that. I mean, we’ve seen some old-school Paul Orndorff interviews talking about women, and how wonderful he is, and how he looked, and how women were in love with him. And so I think he’d have been a great Horseman. It would have been a great program to separate him from Flair and have him and Flair have a program.”
On his best version of Sting:
“Well, let’s see, I liked American Sting and Crow Sting. Other than that, he just painted his face so many different colors, I kind of lost track. But to me, American Sting was the best.”
