WWE Hall of Famer Tammy “Sunny” Sytch, who was sentenced to 17 years in prison with 8 years of probation following her involvement in a March 2022 car accident resulting in the death of 75-year-old Julian L. Lasseter, recently submitted a letter to Judge Karen A. Foxman seeking a reduction in her sentence. Sytch’s charges included DUI manslaughter, with Florida State Attorney RJ Larizza describing her as “a danger to society.”
Earlier this week, it was reported that Sytch had petitioned for her sentences to be served concurrently rather than consecutively. Judge Foxman issued a ruling on January 14th, which stated:
“On November 27, 2023, Defendant was sentenced on the following counts: (1) DUI Cause Death Human/Unborn Child, (2) Driver w/Lic. Susp/Revoked Death/Serious Injury, (3)-(7) DUI with Damage to Person. Defendant on count 1 was sentenced to 7 years’ imprisonment (4 year minimum mandatory sentence), to be followed by 8 years of probation; count 2, Defendant was sentenced to 10.6625 years’ imprisonment, consecutive to count 1; and on counts 3-7, Defendant was sentenced to 364 days in the Sheriff of Volusia County.
In the motion, Defendant requests that the Court modify her sentence, by running concurrently the incarcerative portions of her sentence on Counts 1 and 2, or issue whatever relief the Court deems appropriate.
Defendant states that she is remorseful and while at Lowell Correctional Institution has graduated from the Culinary Arts program, that she has become a teacher’s aide in one of the GED classrooms and that she has been chosen to speak to the youthful offender inmates. Defendant also includes in her motion her housing and employment options when released. The Court acknowledges Defendant’s efforts but denies Defendant’s request.
Accordingly, it is ORDERED AND ADJUDGED that Defendant’s pro se “Motion to Reduce/Modify Sentence” is DENIED.”
Sytch’s case continues to draw attention as she seeks leniency, though her actions and their devastating consequences remain a point of public scrutiny. Sytch is currently scheduled to be released from prison on September 13th 2039.
