AEW acquired the ROH brand a few years ago to leverage its rich history, talent roster, and extensive tape library. While WWE had shown interest in purchasing the promotion, their primary focus was the library, allowing Tony Khan to secure the full acquisition.
Since the purchase, ROH has maintained a consistent presence under AEW’s umbrella. This includes ROH TV airing weekly on the HonorClub streaming service, as well as several annual pay-per-view events. Additionally, ROH has been featured on AEW programming, showcasing its talent and titles. Despite these efforts, Warner Bros. Discovery reportedly had no interest in the ROH brand when AEW acquired it, which prevented the promotion from securing a television deal, relegating its weekly program to streaming.
Recent reports suggest that AEW is once again shopping the ROH brand to potential networks. To bolster negotiations, Chris Jericho was made ROH World Heavyweight Champion, adding star power to the brand.
According to Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, “there are said to be multiple stations in talks regarding a potential weekly show.” However, details about the networks involved or the progress of these discussions remain unclear.
Fans will be watching closely to see if ROH can secure a television deal, further expanding its reach and solidifying its position under the AEW banner.
