Zack Sabre Jr. Says He’s Just Getting Started Following IWGP World Title Retention

Top NJPW star Zack Sabre Jr. successfully defended his IWGP World Heavyweight Championship at NJPW’s Royal Quest event against SANADA. Immediately following the match, Sabre Jr. addressed the live crowd and said he is just getting started.

Sabre Jr. said, “We’re home. [Crowd chants ‘You deserve it.’] No, no, no. Professional wrestling owes me nothing, but it has given me everything, and I will continue to be a professional wrestler until the day I die. This [title] has been my dream since I was 13 years old. I didn’t know it would quite take me this long. But 66 to 24, that’s a bigger gap, so I’ll take 20 years and a bit of change. I was the first British G1 Climax winner. I’m not the first British IWGP World Heavyweight Champion, but I am the first to bring the bloody thing home. In the lead-up to this lifelong aim of mine to win the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship, all my conversations were about how much it was always my dream to reach the top of Japanese wrestling. That doesn’t exist without me being a British wrestler, and it doesn’t exist without all of you supporting me for over two decades. But this is not a lifetime achievement award. I am just getting fucking started. My three goals for this year, G1 Climax, smashed it. IWGP World Heavyweight, done that one as well. Next is Tokyo Dome main event. I’m going to do what no foreign wrestler has done in the history of Wrestle Kingdom, win the fucking thing.”
