Todd Grisham, a former WWE announcer, provided insight into his push for Christian’s comeback to WWE in 2009.
Christian left WWE in 2005 and joined TNA Wrestling, where he became a main event after many years with WWE. This helped demonstrate what he could do if given a larger opportunity higher up the card. When Christian returned to WWE, he became a top star on ECW, capturing the World Title and eventually the World Heavyweight Championship.
When Christian returned, Grisham wasn’t overjoyed, which he thinks was intentional based on what Vince McMahon told him. The host of the podcast Solomonster Sounds Off, Jason Solomon, started this after seeing the unimpressive call. AEW President Tony Khan also responded#
Solomon: “Remember Todd Grisham’s comatose call of ‘it’s… it’s Christian’ when Christian returned to WWE, like his Applebee’s waiter brought out the wrong order? He still sounded more enthusiastic than Bob Costas does calling postseason baseball games. Dreadful.”
Grisham: “Right before I walked out of the Gorillia position before the show. Vince McMahon called me over and said ‘When Christian walks out..don’t get excited at all simply say ‘it’s Christian’ and that’s it. Understand me?’ Me: ‘Yes sir.’
Khan: “This is insane. Christian Cage is the man.”
In response to a fan’s observation that McMahon appeared to try to sabotage Christan, Grisham stated that it “seemed so.”
Funny coincidence: right before Christian's return on ECW.
Jack Swagger’s words: “Your dad can't save you now” and Christian had enough of it. 😂 pic.twitter.com/5OmTwpiuo5 https://t.co/aIOTQ7p0Zs
