WWE held the Backlash France go-home episode of SmackDown Friday night from the LDLC Arena in Décines-Charpieu in Lyon Metropolis, France.
The show featured a face-to-face segment between Undisputed WWE Champion “The American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes and AJ Styles ahead of their championship match at the PLE later tonight. The show also featured an 8-Woman Tag Team Match and the first-ever episode of the RKO show with Kevin Owens and “The Viper” Randy Orton.
Corey Graves mentioned during commentary that SmackDown became the highest-grossing blue brand episode of all time, breaking the previous record that was set about a month ago. WWE will hold Backlash France from the same venue where SmackDown was held.
WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque then noted that Friday night’s show broke the record set four weeks ago at the WrestleMania 40 go-home episode in Philadelphia and that the fans literally received a warning about the noise level in the arena.
Tonight’s event in Lyon, France is officially the highest-grossing #SmackDown of all time, breaking a record set just 4 weeks ago in Philly ahead of #WrestleMania XL.

The @WWEUniverse in France literally received a warning about the noise level tonight at #SmackDown @LDLC_Arena. Absolutely insane.
Like @myMotorhead said… “Only way to feel the noise is when it's good and loud.” pic.twitter.com/i4KMGnfUtY
